We had the good fortune of connecting with Sierra Graves and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sierra, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When it comes to owning a business my thought process has always been fueled by the passion I have for the work that I do. I have never been someone that just clocks in and clocks out. I have more so been someone who takes pride in my everyday effort. By being a business owner I am allowed to create something truly beautiful that is directly represented by the time that I put in. To me it is building something bigger than myself and also allows me to create opportunities for others to flourish, which is the biggest victory in my opinion.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I became the owner of Dance FX Studios in October of 2020, which for most might seem a little risky due to there being a pandemic. However, that just shows how much I believe in the business itself and the culture that is created here. The Studio provides partner dance lessons for adults to include everything from Swing to Country to Latin to Ballroom with an emphasis on Social Dancing! It’s not only a place to dance, but also a place to meet new people, add romance, build confidence and do something you never thought possible. (Shout out to anyone that says they have “Two Left Feet!”) I am so excited to continue to create a comfortable environment for every Student that walks in and to continue to have a place where Instructors can share their passion for dance with others.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am a very active person, so I would take them to hike the Echo side of Camelback! I know – I’m such a mean friend. It’s a very hard hike, so I only go when I’m with someone new and the views up top are absolutely worth it.

Food wise, I am a sucker for anything involving breakfast and a great cappuccino. (Hash Kitchen for the win.)

Lastly, I have also been doing escape rooms and that is always a grand time, so I would probably finish of the day with that. Escape Rooms Mesa has a ton of rooms and has been my favorite so far.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to give a shoutout to the previous owners – Adam & Nicole Dekavallas. They took the time to share their knowledge with me and were able to recognize my potential. They successfully owned and operated the Studio for 19 years and to trust me to continue to build on that legacy is an opportunity that I am very grateful for.
