We had the good fortune of connecting with Wyman Excavating and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Wyman, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Taking risk is necessary with success. I see risk as something that anyone doesn’t initially want to do. However once you get the idea/project started the creator is happy with the completion of the project and the success of there accomplishment. Also, when any business owner starts a company its ideal to brand yourself so that your company is able to stand alone from your competitors. The purpose of branding anything is so that the consumer can remember the company name. In order to brand properly, I believe its best to be as creative and risky as possible. People can appreciate something new and aesthetically pleasing.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
One of the things that gets brought up a lot is our advertising strategy. We are currently advertising w/ instagram models/influencers who help the brand expand and brings entertainment and excitement to the industry. Our company was founded in 1996 and at that time advertising and marketing was completely different. We relied on faxing, in person networking, street signs, and word of mouth. Now the internet has changed the game completely. Customers are wanting to see video / photos of your resume, but before they even pick up the phone. The key is catching there eye from the ad. That is the direction that we felt was best when advertising because the demographics in our industry are primarily male and the photo coloring is bright and aesthetically pleasing as well. So even if they are not wanting to hire an excavating company anyone within those demographics feels a need to pay attention and most likely respond which has worked very well for us thus far. Although advertising is important, it is even more important to have a phenomenal product and have people who are capable of communicating with the customers clearly and competently. It was not easy getting to where we are now. When we started the company back up in 2016 we started from scratch with no prior customers, equipment, connections, employee’s. (We had to close the company originally from the market crash) it has been challenging in many different aspects and is not easy what so ever. However, we have been successful thus far and we are grateful to have the people who are with our company. It is the team that makes the machine work properly. A few lessons that I learned is to always be honorable and respectful. Also, to make sure you have every detail written out in contract, so that there are no confusions on what to expect once the project starts. Wyman is a honorable and respectful company that prides ourselves on a fantastic product.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Arizona has several different spots all over the valley that can be fun for whatever someone is into. If I was speaking w/ someone who is an outdoorsman and loves nature. Grand Canyon, Antelope Canyon, Havasu Falls, Kartchners Cavern, Troon Mountain, Bearizona, Emerald Cove, Butterfly Farm, Arizona Hot Springs. Fountain Hills Fountain Park, Sedona, Kierland Commons, Ride your bike down the pathway that goes from Tempe Market Place to North Scottsdale.
Fun places to eat: Mastro’s, Pappadeaux, Ajo Al’s, The Perch(if you like birds), InGo’s, The Compass Room
Plenty of other places..
