We had the good fortune of connecting with Vanessa Perryman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Vanessa, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk taking is something I fortunately, or unfortunately, know a little about. I have an all or nothing type personality that has most of the time gotten me into some trouble, but thankfully not with this career choice. When I decided to take on the adventure of becoming an Esthetician it was without hesitation. I was working at a job that wasn’t very fulfilling and didn’t seem to challenge me either mentally or physically. I felt like I needed a complete overhaul. Being a new mom for the second time and leaving a steady paycheck was daunting but had to be done. Enter risk #1 – finding that perfect job! I was scrolling through the internet and stumbled across Esthetics (not knowing what that actually meant other than skincare) I clicked on more information and was contacted by a local school. I toured the school the very next day and before I left I enrolled in their 600 hour program. Risk #2 – opening up my own spa! After graduating with an Esthetics license I didn’t work for anyone I jumped right in feet first with my own space. No clientele, no prospects, no marketing experience, no equipment or products, nothing. With the help from family and friends as models and me using whatever samples and trials I could get my hands on one treatment led to another and another. Risk #3 – juggling work and family! It’s rough but possible. Being able to set your own schedule is where it’s at! Risk # 4 – continuing to educate yourself on new treatments and products! Skincare is not a one size fits all, the skincare business is constantly changing and updating. Being willing to try new things is a must in this industry. There are a million more risks to being a business owner and an Esthetician – is it worth it? ABSOLUTELY!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a licensed Aesthetician with two awesome kids and a very supportive, amazing husband. I have had family in the entertainment industry for years and while witnessing the importance of exceptional skin and skincare first hand, I wanted to help alleviate the pressures and struggles of being lost during a dull skin day or not being able to correct that unsightly blemish.
When my kids were old enough to start school, I did too! After graduating from GSkin and Beauty in Chandler, AZ I went on to complete extensive continuing education courses in advanced skin care, chemical peels, specialized therapeutic facials, and product knowledge. I am also a certified Elleebanna Lash Lift and Tint Specialist and am certified in lash extensions. I am a specialist in hair removal with an eye for detail. I have earned my certification through DaVinci Teeth in teeth whitening, and is excited to help those gorgeous smiles shine brighter! I am also a certified Skin Classic Thermolysis Specialist, a Norvell Spray Tan Specialist, and a Needlehauz Body Contouring Specialist.

Through listening to the body and thoughtful communication, I have a collaborative approach of reaching the specific goals of my clients. I believe what sets me apart from others in my profession is that I am very precise and meticulous about what I do. I really take the time to make certain my clients feel comfortable and satisfied every time they come in, and that they leave me feeling more beautiful and more relaxed than when they arrived. I combine that notion with my clinical education in order to provide a thorough, soothing, and individualized spa experience for anyone.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
You probably wouldn’t know it talking to me, but I’m a true introvert. My idea of a good time is cozying up in a blanket on the couch with some popcorn and a good movie!

If my best friend popped into town I would for sure take her downtown Gilbert on a weekend where we would eat to our hearts content at any one of the many incredible restaurants – maybe a little Zin Burger for dinner and Petersen’s for ice cream, and do a ton of people watching – I LOVE to people watch!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The old adage of “it takes a village” is 100% fitting. Without the support of my husband, my kids, and my whole family, I could never of even attempted this career. My teachers, Denise and Lisa, who believed in my ability all those years ago, and the unwavering devotion from my amazing clients and friends keep me going to this day. Thank you!
