Meet Amber Wolfe | Baker, Small Business Owner & Mom

We had the good fortune of connecting with Amber Wolfe and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amber, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Balance is kind of huge when it comes to my life and my business. I am a wife to my husband of 20 years and a mom to my 4 kids. I am also the small business owner of For the Love of Cupcakes by Amber. When I first started my business my youngest child was starting kindergarten. I figured I would just work when my kids were in school and it would all work out perfectly. I soon began to realize there just isn’t enough hours in the day and the struggle to balance running a business and running a household of four kids and all of their extra curricular events is Incredibly tough. In the beginning I felt absolutely terrible telling people no. And to be honest I still struggle with this. But in order to have balance it must be done. I love making peoples events, birthdays, special occasions memorable. Part of me felt so guilty having to decline an order. However, I realized that in order to have balance in the crazy life of mine It was necessary to say no sometimes.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My business is called For the Love of Cupcakes by Amber. I have always loved making my kids Birthday cakes and parties elaborate and creative. Birthdays have always been a big deal in our house. I decided after my youngest daughter went to kindergarten I was going to give my little baking business a try. The thought of making other peoples Birthdays and special occasions better with custom decorated cupcakes was so exciting to me. After about 6 months I was contacted by another small business, Tea shop requesting to sample some cupcakes for her shop. I never imagined I could sell my cupcakes in a shop. What an honor this was to sell my cupcakes to her. I then began reaching out to other small business coffee shops. After a few months I was selling my cupcakes in two different shops. What a dream come true! I then decided to take a huge leap and reach out to AJ’s Fine foods. I felt like my little blue boxes would fit in great with their store and products. I will tell you that going to that meeting and giving them samples of my cupcakes was truly an accomplishment in itself. I felt like even if it didn’t work out I could tell my kids someday that I chased my dream to the top. Well believe it or not AJ’s loved my product and I currently deliver my cupcakes every week to several of their locations. Truly a dream come true. If you believe in your product and have a passion about what your doing you can really do anything. You have to get out there and not be afraid. I’m just a mom with 4 kids who wasn’t afraid to go for a dream of having a cupcake business. My next dream was to have my own food truck. The idea of being able to go to farmers markets, weddings, and corporate events was super exciting to me. Cupcakes make people happy and the idea of spreading this to more people and being able to be the one to hand over that cupcake excites me. I’ve lost touch a bit with some of my customers by delivering my cupcakes to these shops. The idea of a food truck was the best of both worlds! I purchased my food truck about two weeks ago. I can’t wait to get my little cupcake truck out there.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
To be honest with four kids we don’t exactly have much free time. Our weekends consist of soccer games and football games. Time with my family is definitely the most important.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I credit my passion for baking delicious food to my grandmother Suzie as well as my mom Brenda. Their love for baking and finding new recipes to try always inspired me. My husband Jeff believed in this crazy dream of mine to start a cupcake business and has been my biggest supporter all along. And my 4 kids Ethan, Ella, Madalyn, and Annie have been the best cheerleaders. My son Ethan has been the best taste tester.
