We had the good fortune of connecting with Jacob Lopez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jacob, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
There are plenty of tattoo shops out there already and with so much compation it makes you wonder if you will even stand out. However, I noticed from my own clients that they would talk about how horrible of an experince they have had with their last tattoo artist. More and more of my clients expressed the same setiment, that the tattoo industry was missing empathy, care and compasion.
When we launched our Tattoo Studio we made it our mission to always put the clients wants and needs first. We want to genuinely treat people with respect and empathy not just because we are getting paid for it but because it is right. Make it so that we don’t just do people’s tattoos, we also share and give an experience to our customers that will literally last them a life time.
We believe that if we create our Studios centered around helping and giving instead of just sales and profits, that we will succeed. Not only do we intend to disrupt the industry, we plan on taking it over. While simultaneously, we will have created a new standard in the tattoo industry which poeple are going to expect from from every tattoo shop out there.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I totally love it when I can create what my client had in mind! It can be so difficult be the client and try to explain what you invision for your tattoo to look like. It can be equally as difficult to interpret what the client is looking for in their tattoo. I think one of my favorite part of the tattoo process is creating the design.
We start by laying out the basic concept. Establishing the “must-haves” and go from there. I then go to work creating a first draft. Now it does depend on many factors whether we are going to create 1-2 drafts or go 5-6 drafts deep to final create the right/best design but thats the beauty of it. You and your client are working to create a “one of a kind” piece of art for them, and I can assure you, the clients love being part of the creative process.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would invite them to come the first week of the month to enjoy the night out at “First Friday.” It an arts, music and food festival that happens every first Friday of the month on Roosevelt from 1st ST to 7th ST. Frist Friday is always a blast! So many vendors and food trucks to try from, plus plenty of resturants and bars. The street are filled preformers either dancing, playing music, stunts and just having fun. Definitely need to check out First Friday when coming to Phoenix, AZ.
