We had the good fortune of connecting with Aprildawn Gollihue and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Aprildawn, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind my brand is authenticity. People can tell when a brand is pretending to be authentic and trying too hard to fit in as “vulnerable”. Being true to what your brand represents and your brand’s personality is key. As a Personal Brand Photographer I help other business owners discover their Brand’s real personality and help them shine online. I am my brand so I share work, family, and my favorite coffees.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is unique to me. I started in photography in the 80s with a Pentax film camera and as the industry evolved to digital cameras I flowed with it but stayed brand loyal to Pentax. The biggest challenge in my art prior to digital photography is being color blind. I can mathematically color correct my images in Photoshop because I can’t see color cast and skin tones now, which was not an option before in film.

I enjoy Macro, Family Documentary, and creative photography. My passion work is really in lifestyle branding. It really brings happiness to the heart to see an entrepreneur captured perfectly doing what they love to share with the world.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would have to go to Sedona and enjoy some wine at the local vineyard in Paige Springs and we would need to grab a bite to eat at the Javelina Cantina. We would visit the Sedona Vortex and see the Ancient Ruins.

You can’t have a vacation in Arizona without visiting the Grand Canyon and Bearizona in Flagstaff Area.

We would want to a change of pace and head to the city, Phoenix for some completely instagramable hotels for some great selfies.. the Love Sculpture, La Grande Orange Grocery & Pizzeria Mural, Roosevelt Row, Hotel valley Ho, The Saguaro Scottsdale, The Phoenician, Boulders Resort, The Scott Resort.

Lastly we would see some of the desert in Tucson! Saguaro Park & Mt Lemmon are a must! and lets not forget the Mission.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mentor and business coach Cyrissa Carlson of Immerse Photography & Sparkle Society in the heart of Ohio, showed me so much encouragement and love throughout my three years of business. She helped me understand the power of Social Media Marketing and discover the niche of Branding Photography. She introduced me to other great leaders in the space like Jamie M Swanson of the Modern Tog and the Personal Brand Movement. Together these ladies helped me get to where I am in my business.
