Meet Backpack Sway | Artist & Graphic Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Backpack Sway and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Backpack, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk taking is almost necessary as a creative. No matter what it is you create, you have to be willing to bet on yourself in order to grow your art. Risk is going to play a huge factor in my career because I plan to continue to grow my music and art as an independent artist. Having to invest in yourself comes with risk, but when you have full ownership of your work; it will be way more profitable in the end.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Last summer we did I’m Back: The EP which was basically just a compilation of 6 unique tracks that feature some of the artists under LDMP. The experience creating it with the team out in St. Louis was incredible because it had been years since I had gotten to record with some of the team. The first EP was just a taste of what’s to come, not just for me but for the rest of LDMP as well. MagicProducer just drop an EP recently on all platforms called The Exposition. I’m currently working on two separate projects that should be dropping sometime this year. Plus, we’re also moving along with pretty well with the brand and will have more merchandise available and in store for the new year. Shout out to Devon for that. The biggest thing I’d want the world to know about us is that everything that we create, and release will be passionate works of art. The whole team is incredible and I’m exciting to continue the process and gain traction for the future record label we plan to build.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I’m being honest, I’m really a home body and a lot of my best friends are so I probably wouldn’t have a specific gameplan. I feel like my friend group is really tight so we’re comfortable literally just being together no matter what the activity is. So, we’d most likely just kind of go with the flow of what’s going on throughout the week. Try to find new places to go and eat together because I’ve only lived here for a few years.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First, I need to give a shoutout to both of my producers Marcus Hinton (MagicProducer) and Patrick Anderson (Lil Pat). Marcus was the one who actually got me to record my first track back at school so I probably wouldn’t be here hadn’t it been for him. Lil Pat is probably the hardest working one of all of us; and that’s saying a lot because we already have so much prepared for this upcoming year. There’s a bunch of names I could list here but I’d really just like to show and send love to all of LDMP (Lazy Don’t Make Paper). Everybody amongst the group works incredibly hard and they are one of the main ingredients to my dedication to the craft.
