Meet Lucy Tobey | Model & Entertainer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lucy Tobey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lucy, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Personally, I believe that success is achieved through discipline and dedication. Without using these two skills to develop a method of time-management, it is much harder for us to keep our lives in order and to pursue our goals. As a full-time nursing student and a full-time model, it can be challenging to balance the two worlds.
My biggest challenge when it comes to time management is that I tend towards being overly ambitious, which leads to me filling my schedule to the brim, which leads to burnout.
It is vital that we are selective with how we spend our time, and recognize that we do not have to say yes to every opportunity that comes our way. Burning the candle at both ends will only lead to lowered productivity and motivation in the long run.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Modeling is a form of art like no other, because their is no separation between yourself and your art. In that way, the very essence of your being is embodied in your work. This can be empowering, but can also present unique challenges not present in other art forms. When critiques are made of the work, either by yourself or others, it is necessary to not take these comments personally and recognize that you are your art, but you are not just your art, you are an entire being and modeling is just one piece of you.
My career in modeling stemmed from my passion for all things fashion. A family friend asked me to model her clothing line on the runway at 12 years old, and from there I grew to expand my modeling to print, creative photoshoots, advertising, music videos, event modeling, and more.
I have struggled with keeping a healthy balance between my modeling work and my education and social life, but am proud to say I have achieved amazing things with the help of some incredible people I’ve met along the way.
I’ve been published over 20 times, including 4 magazine covers. I’ve walked in runway shows across the Midwest, and collaborated with artists from all over the globe. Astounding things happen when creative, talented people work to bring a vision to life.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I were visiting St. Louis, Missouri, I would most definitely recommend taking a trip to the Arch. It is a marvel of engineering and a fixture on our skyline. A trip to Six Flags St. Louis is also essential for thrill seekers like myself. Union Station and the St. Louis Wheel are also quintessential stops, as is watching the St. Louis Cardinals play ball at Busch Stadium.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I wouldn’t be where I am today without the support of my family, boyfriend, and friends. From a young age my family instilled in me the values of integrity and hard work, and have supported my career and education. My friends and fellow models Nikki Serenity and Paris N’cholle are always there to reach out and help others achieve their dreams. Finally, my college University of Missouri St. Louis provides extraordinary opportunities to elevate their students and support their growth.
