Meet Hugo Grey | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Hugo Grey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Hugo, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risks are one of the most important factors when it comes to being successful. The unknown! Fear of the unknown is what sets a lot of people back. However, if you just take a leap of faith and just go after what you want, perhaps you fail, but perhaps you don’t.

Each failure in life comes with a certain tool. This tool will show you what not to do in any given situation and it can show you a better way to approach any given situation. Failure is another word for education because you learn from your mistakes.

In my career as a photographer, I didn’t know if people would like my work, I didn’t know if I was any good, I didn’t know if it would take me anywhere. Something I did know is, if all that was true at least I could print out a couple of images a cover the walls in my house. However, come to find out many people loved my work, many people are inspired by my work. I am often told that after working with me many of my clients found a better appreciation of themselves through each image taken to have memories of a lifetime.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I think what sets me apart from other photographers is the ability to act out the mood/concept that I want during photoshoots. I often tell my clients that I wouldn’t tell t them to do anything that I wouldn’t wouldn’t try myself. I do everything from the movement of the body to the facial expressions to show the client that look that I am going for.

Networking is how I got where I am today. I talk to EVERYONE! I don’t care who you are, I can at least say hello. So in that expect yes it was pretty easy. Additionally, just speaking to someone can brighten up their day.

One of the biggest challenges I have faced honestly is knowing my worth. People will take advantage of you when you are just trying to make everyone around you great. Also time management, when you’re doing everything on your own from doing the photography, to running the business, creative director, amongst other things you can find yourself drained.

One way I overcame a lot of my bad situations was just to say NO!

The thing that I am most proud of at the moment when it comes to photography, I have been published in GQ and Vanity Fair.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh man, well first I have to say I’m a go with the flow type of person, so I can’t say we would have a set itinerary. However, some of the places we have to go are:

West Gate
Butterfly Wonderland
Grand Canyon
Revolu
Mancusos
Maybe go to the Grand Canyon
Sedona

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Definitely my family! Without my family, I am nothing! I also mean the family that i have acquired through the years of traveling this amazing world we live in. I have family everywhere from New York to Japan! I love them all and couldn’t do anything without them!
