We had the good fortune of connecting with Chesalon K. Walton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chesalon, what role has risk played in your life or career?
When it comes to taking risk, I look at it as creating an opportunity for yourself. I’ve always been a risk taker when it comes to my career, the way I do things, and the opportunities that I go after. Risk taking has gotten me to a different cities and meeting like minded people in my industry. It has opened many doors for exposure for my business and craft. In life you will encouter obstacles that try to get in the way of what you have your mind set on but as a risk taker it has broaden my perspective of life and how hard individuals work to get to higher positions and places that they are in today.


Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
When I think of my creative concepts for my photoshoots and styling, I go deeper into the meaning of the purpose of the shoot. My Moto is KEEP IT SIMPLE, BE CREATIVE, and THINK BIG. Being a fashion comes with its ups and downs but being a creative is a different story. As a creative I’m constantly thinking how to set myself apart from others but more so focusing on myself and challenging myself to top the last work that I’ve done. I think it’s so important to know how to market creatively and be your authentic self while being in the business environment. I got where I am today by word of mouth, networking, and putting myself out there. It’s not easy building a business but I would say the biggest lessons I’ve learned is to believe in yourself and the impossible, to know who to trust in the industry, and to continue to connect and build trustworthy relationships in the industry.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would say that my business mentor Sebrina Cowan has helped me out tremendously when it comes to organizing and planning. I am so grateful for her and cherish her in my life as someone who I can trust and give her honest opinion when making business decisions.
