We had the good fortune of connecting with Kaimon Ontiveros and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kaimon, what is the most important factor behind your success?
For me, the most important factor behind any current or future success I have, is my work ethic. At a young age, the motto “hard work pays off” was instilled in me, and I have tried to apply that to everything I do. When you work hard, and put your all into things, good things tend to happen, even if it wasn’t what you had originally intended. I believe in the saying “how you do anything is how you do everything”, so I try and do everything 100% to the best of my ability and let it work out however it’s supposed to. I believe my work ethic is the key to what has carried me to where I am at, because it is all I had in the start. I didn’t start with any knowledge of music or business, or a mentor, or any connections to help show me the way. I started by myself, with a laptop and youtube and absolutely no idea of what I was doing. I put in countless hours of studying and working just to eventually get to the point of being where I am now. I believe I am talented, and smart, and all the other qualities that may make up a successful person, but the most important factor has to be the work ethic.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a DIY musician. I produce all of my own beats, write all of my own songs, record, mix and master all of own vocals, and engineer all of my own projects. I also run my own studio in Mesa, called The De La Rue Studios. My independence and self-sufficiency are what I am most proud of when it comes to my work. I know I am not on the level of other artists in the world right now, but what I have is 100% mine from start to finish, so it’s nothing anyone can ever take away from me.

I played football my entire life, including 4 years in college. It wasn’t until that ended that I truly discovered my passion for music. It had always been there, but it was hidden and overshadowed by what I thought I was supposed to be doing. So, I’ve only officially been on this journey with music for about 3 years now. I wouldn’t say I have gotten real far, but I can also say it hasn’t been easy to get here. Hard work, dedication, and blind faith in myself are what have helped get me here. In the summer of 2020, 4 of my best friends and I picked up and moved from Texas. We were all going through rough, transitional phases in our lives. We had no plan, or clue as to what we would do when we got here, but we had faith we would make it work. Nearly 2 years later, I’ve had my own studio for over a year, and I have been fortunate enough to work with some amazing artists and have created my best work personally.

If there was anything I want the world to know about me, it’s that I am authentic. I do not try to, or wish to be like anybody else that does what I am doing. When someone hears my music, I want them to hear something different than anything they’ve ever heard before.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The first stop on the list would be my studio, The De La Rue Studios. Me and my best friend, Braxton, opened up a creative studio that houses his marketing agency, a content creation studio, a podcast studio, and of course a music studio. For entrepreneurs or creatives of any kind, this is the place to be. For eats, I would make sure we have some Taco Boys at some point. Biscuits, over in Tempe on Elliot would be a must for breakfast. Of course, we’d have hit up Old Town at some point for some drinks. We’d make sure to take a road trip up to Sedona, through Jerome. Then, we’d make sure to hike “A mountain” to get the view in the city, but we’d also hike Camelback so I could show them how crazy the views are from up there. There’s a good chance we’d sneak a few rounds in at Legacy Golf Resort, or The Raven too.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my Shoutout to my family, for instilling me with the values that make me who I am and for always believing in me and supporting me through any endeavor. I have to Shoutout my girlfriend, Anslie, for supporting me endlessly, and metaphorically jumping off the cliff with me as I chase my dreams. Her love has inspired me in so many ways. Finally, I have to Shoutout my best friend Braxton for pushing me to believe in myself and for helping me see what you want in life is possible if you follow your vision.
