We had the good fortune of connecting with Jaycee Reidhead and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jaycee, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
For the last 10 years I have used photography as a way to capture all of the memories with my dog, Kai, and I. We love to hike, camp and explore, and I used my love of photography as a way to showcase all of our adventures. However, I realized that the way I take pictures to remember moments with Kai, I wanted to do for other people. I wanted to be the one to capture the moments that they’ll remember forever, or that will capture the most special events in their lives. I decided to start my photography business to showcase couples, engagements, weddings and elopements, and especially those that are geared towards adventure and travel. I’ve done a lot of outdoor traveling and look to get into that niche due to my special interests in hiking and traveling.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My full-time job is with the Arizona Department of Corrections as a Correctional Officer. It is vastly different from the photography venture that I’ve started, but it is a career that has made me learn about myself and how to interact with other people effectively. It is not an easy job by any means, and I am constantly tested physically, mentally, and emotionally, but it has been worthwhile in learning interpersonal skills and effective communication, both of which has translated great to my creative ventures.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would be ecstatic to show off Tucson to anyone that decided to visit. There are so many unique aspects about this city that I just cannot get enough of. If they were staying for a week, there would be plenty to do! Firstly, and probably most importantly, we would go to El Percheron and get delicious carne asada burritos, and then head over to a hot dog stand for some classic Sonoran hot dogs and horchata.

The Mexican food here in Tucson is unparalleled. Then we’ll head over to the Desert Museum for a day trip to see all of the amazing Arizona wildlife, and then go to Saguaro National Park to see the sunset near the saguaros. One of the nights during the say, we would also visit Downtown Tucson and hit up the local bars such as Illegal Pete’s or Boxyard. While Tucson is not a huge city, the nightlife can be very entertaining.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
One of my best friend’s, Keyla, was practically the guiding hand behind my business.

She initially reached out to me to shoot photos for her baby announcement and I happily obliged. After seeing how amazing the photos turned out, she encouraged me to start doing more photo sessions for people and to start my business.
