We had the good fortune of connecting with Moriah Jacobs and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Moriah, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Perseverance and faith… And the fact that I never gave up, I knew this dream of mine was no coincidence! There were so many times I wanted to quit.. But deep down I knew it was an endurance race, not just a sprint. Starting and maintaining your own business can be really tough! It can defeat a person at times. I am now able to take a step back and see that all the times I did give up, and kept my feet moving towards my goals has really paid off! On the business side of things, I really strive to make sure the products we make in the shop are high quality and it is important to me to make sure a good customer experience is had as well.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?

I started out making leather dog collars back in May of 2016 right as I was graduating from the University of Arizona with a degree in Crop Production. I moved to South Dakota for a job then ended up moving back to Arizona the following fall. I started making more leather goods in my free time while working for my parents and growing my social media. It was definitely not easy, but being able to look back and see how this business grows each year has become such a blessing and so worth the hard work! I try really hard to come up with new designs and perfect my craft! I am still learning and still growing as a business owner every day! I currently have a 800 square foot shop with two part time employees! Currently my top product is custom leather patch hats.

My best piece of advice is to start small where you can and keep persevering!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I personally love northern Arizona! I would highly recommend a trip up north to explore northern Arizona. There are so many great small towns and wonderful restaurants from Sedona to Show low I would take a roadtrip all over northern Arizona.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My parents are small business owners and have been very successful since starting their business in the 80s! It has been such a blessing watching them work and succeed (I worked a lot for them growing up). They work so hard and I can see first hand how it has paid off! They really showed me the reward in a hard work ethic and constant innovation.
