Meet Hannah Pohlmeyer | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Hannah Pohlmeyer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Hannah, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
One thing I strive for in my photography business is not just giving people quality photos that they love, but also making their shoot an enjoyable experience. I want people to look back on their photos and remember sharing a moment with their family, partner, friends, or just themselves celebrating a milestone that was positive and something they’ll remember forever. Getting pictures taken can be stressful, I always strive to make the experience as comfortable as possible and make it one that is instead fun, carefree, and memorable in the best of ways! So, I hope to be remembered by being someone who was able to make others feel comfortable in front of the camera and who created memories beyond just the photos that were delivered.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Since a very early age I have always loved taking photos. There is something about being able to freeze a special moment and look back on it forever that I will always cherish. During the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, I found myself looking for a creative outlet that would allow me to (safely) grow my skills and explore more in-depth something I have always loved, photography. It started with taking pictures of family and friends while learning the ins and outs of photography and starting a business. There were so many aspects I could have never imagined that suddenly were presenting themselves and I’ll admit, it was and is still very overwhelming! But, I instantly fell in love with capturing people in a natural and fun way and let that guide me into starting my business. That was when Life is Sweet Photography first lifted off and I jumped in full force as it was graduation season at the university I attend and there were MANY seniors looking for a photographer. I jumped in and let the back to back sessions with all different types of individuals and groups be a learning experience for me. Now, a year and a half later I am still learning every single day how to be a successful photographer, business owner, and full time student. I currently am getting my degree in microbiology with minors in psychology and photography and am headed into my senior year. Learning how to juggle my education, personal life, and growing business has been one of the biggest challenges. Some days it feels like there is simply not enough time in the day to get everything done, but that is when I have to take a step back and realize I am so lucky to be able to pursue the things I love! Photography has been a wonderful creative outlet for me and the people I have met along the way have been nothing short of amazing. I am very thankful to each and every person who has trusted me to create lasting memories for them to have for the rest of their life!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am currently living in Flagstaff, Arizona for school and am simply in love with Northern Arizona! Starting with food, lunch at Aspen Deli or the Lumberyard is a must and dinner at Ewa’s Thai Cuisine is one of my favorites in Flagstaff! Before heading off on any adventure, I would definitely take my friend to het coffee at Warner’s Nursery while browsing their beautiful property. While I’m Northern AZ, hiking is a must! Horton Creek (Payson), Mount Elden (Flagstaff), and Crescent Moon (Sedona), have been some of my favorites! Looking for something more low-key? Hammocking at Buffalo Park or upper Lake Mary makes for a perfectly relaxing afternoon. Finally, wandering through the shops in downtown Flagstaff and supporting the local business is something I absolutely love. The stores always have something new to offer and the unique buildings and beautiful weather of Flagstaff makes it the perfect place to walk around!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to thank my dad, Ray, for instilling in me a love for photography at an early age. He taught me to be present in the moment while still freezing little snippets of time through photos. I would also like to thank my mom, Kerry, for always supporting my endeavors and every crazy idea I come up with next, like starting a business while a full time college student! Finally, I would like to thank my best friend Kaylee for her endless motivation and support as well as for always being my hardest critique (in the BEST of ways!).
