We had the good fortune of connecting with Margo Huntley and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Margo, what makes you happy? Why?
I love this question. I think the degree of happiness that we have in our life depends completely on our perspective and where we choose to seek and accept it. I always say, two people could live the exact same life under the exact same circumstances but based on their mindset, one could lead the happiest life in the world while the other could be miserable. So to circle back to the question, just about everything makes me happy. My surroundings, small things, big things, even hard things often make me happy because I know that growth follows hardship. Why do I think like this? Because it makes the quality of life that I live feel unmatched. Happiness is genuinely where you seek it, and although nobody is happy all the time you can certainly increase your degree of it by making a conscious effort to do so. I would like to briefly add that I recognize it is a privilege to feel this way and to be able to have this mindset – everything that I speak to is from within the scope of my life and the circumstances I have lived through.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I absolutely love what I do. Currently I am working at a social media agency where I am able to connect and collaborate with such a wide variety of brands, I get to exercise my creative side by brainstorming campaign concepts, and executing photoshoots. It is the perfect combination of everything that I am passionate about and I feel so lucky to do what I do.

It was not easy to get here, it was a ton of hard work. That being said, I have always had clear goals that I am passionate about, so the hard work was and is like second nature. It’s rewarding and there hasn’t been a moment in my journey where I’ve thought “maybe this isn’t worth it, maybe I want to choose an easier path, or maybe I need to lower my goals and expectations for myself”.

Theres an ancient Japanese ideology / concept called “ikigai” which it roughly translates to “life worth” and has to do with finding joy in ones life by discovering and following your purpose. If anyone reading this has never heard of ikigai, I encourage you to research it and to follow the steps to discovering yours. I think I lucked into finding my purpose early on in life which is why I love working so much. And if you are on the wrong track – thats okay. But everyone deserves to love what they do and if its just a matter of identifying what you’re meant to be doing and adjusting your course to better align with that, don’t be afraid to do so! My best advice Is trust your intuition and follow your heart because when you love what you do you really won’t work a day in your life.

The most rewarding things I have ever done have been the ones that required the most work. Co-founding ASU’s student run fashion magazine which I now get to watch continue to grow, thrive and be a collaborative creative outlet for current students from afar, for example. Starting that magazine along with my best friend Elisabeth Bradley, and building its credibility at a large school took everything we had. But even through that process there wasn’t an incline to quit at any point, and I think I can speak for the both of us when I say getting to now look back and see what it’s become is an indescribable feeling.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my friend were visiting me here in Phoenix these would be some must stop spots…

Coffee: Jojo’s Coffeehouse (flights), Happy Joe Coffee, Cartel.

Casual eating: Chopshop, Postinos.

Activities: Hike Camelback, Fashion Square, Pappago Park, day trip to Saguaro lake.

Drinks: AZ/88, CALA

Dinner spots: Toca Madera, EVO
