We had the good fortune of connecting with blizzb3ar and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi blizzb3ar, how do you define success?
Success can be defined in multiple ways, especially on Twitch. A lot of folks see success as high numbers (views or follows) or high revenue. Others might determine success on the amount of opportunities you get. Success to me is measured by impact. If I can impact 1 person in a positive way with my content, I am successful in being a content creator.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I feel like there is a lot that sets me apart from the rest when it comes to the content I create. I have been producing content for about 2 years now. I became a full time content creator Feb 2nd of 2021 and reached partnership on Twitch on Feb 5th 2021. It was like I closed one door and another door opened up, especially after leaving a government job that wasn’t mentally (and emotionally) for me. It wasn’t an easy journey although it happened quickly. I battled a lot of hateful comments, hate raids, death threats and white conservatives trying to take my platform (and other social media platforms) down. I decided to focus on what I wanted within my community and within my content. I wanted to continue to encompass a queer and BIPOC safe space. I also used the thought of positive impact to motivate me to move forward. In terms of dealing with the challenges, I am very thankful I am surrounded by an amazing amount of creators who have provided multiple resources in order to shut down bigots on the platform. A couple of things I have learned while being on the platform focus around setting boundaries. My stream, my platform, my content is my space and I control the vibes I wanna set in my place. If someone makes me or my community feel uncomfortable, then that isn’t someone I want in my space.

In terms of the content I create, I am a variety streamer. A lot of my content focuses around Just Chatting, but I also include covering crime cases, building LEGOs and playing Stardew Valley (or any scary game). It’s a lot, but its fun to create.

What I want the world to know about me and my brand is that I am unapologetically black and queer and just happy to be here.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Okay okay okay. Well day one, I text you at 12pm to get ready because I am coming at 1pm to pick you up and take you to the beach. We aren’t going to a crowded beach, but more of a hideaway coastal place where we can blast good music and just vibe. I am also going to pack us up a couple of sandwiches I got to-go from a local cafe as well as a bottle of sparkling rose because why not? It’s your first day visiting, why not use it to relax and exist.

The next couple of days we just explore the city. Go to the places you wanna go. Maybe hit up a couple of Museums in DC via city scooter. The Natural History Museum is a big one one around here and has really cool exhibits to look at. At night, we can hit up the night life. Check out a couple of gay bars/clubs and live carefree. Something I love to do at the end of the night, is find some late night post-bar pizza at 3am. Hell, I even know a crepe place that’s open until 4!

And then on the last day of your visit, lets go all out. I will find a 5 star restaurant to celebrate your last night here! The champagne will be on me.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate this shoutout to all the marginalized creators doing the damn thing online.
