Meet Barry Raber | President /Carefree Covered RV Storage

We had the good fortune of connecting with Barry Raber and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Barry, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I always knew I wanted to try starting a business. It’s in my blood. My dad was an entrepreneur in the auto industry. I saw the freedom that provided him and our family, and I wanted that for my own family, too. It was just a matter of when and what business.

While I had opportunities to follow in my dad’s footsteps, I realized the auto industry was very complex and competitive.

I chose to pursue real estate investing instead, recognizing the obvious if simplified business advantage it offered: Demand increases every year as population grows, while land supply remains constant, or even diminishes.

After college, I spent 10 years learning the ropes of real estate investment at a large corporation in Portland before starting my own company.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are a 20-year-old commercial real estate investment company with three distinct chapters. We began investing in and managing business parks before pivoting to self-storage and, finally, are now exclusively building and operating RV storage facilities.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
So many people have helped along the way, including my brilliant wife of 22 years.

But the one organization I attribute much of my success to is, without a doubt, Entrepreneurs Organization. EO is the world’s largest peer-to-peer organization for entrepreneurs and its members taught me so much.

EO provides access to best practices and deep support from fellow local entrepreneurs through its Forum Program. It introduced me to a brand expert who helped us rock our brands, and its Strategic Coach program had a profound impact. Its sister organization, Accelerator, is great too for founders who are earlier on in their journey.
