Meet Marivel Merems | Content Creator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Marivel Merems and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marivel, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I’m from Mexico. I was born in the state of Sonora. I’ve been living in Tucson, Arizona for almost 6 years. I was raised Catholic. I went to church every Sunday with my family. We couldn’t missed it. My parents are conservative and devoted to church. Always trying to help people however they can. I have a sister 3 years younger than me and we are very close. My parents always taught us that no matter what we would always have each other and that really stick with me and that’s part of why we are so close. I studied to become a teacher in Hermosillo, Sonora and worked as a preschool teacher there for a couple of years. After immigrating to the United States I worked as a Spanish Interpreter in Tucson. Something that I’ve learned thanks to my experiences in both cultures is that we have to respect each other no matter what your background is always be kind and humble we never know what the other person is going through. I love being part of two totally different cultures and being able to speak two languages. That’s why when I started creating content in social media, I wanted to take advantage of those skills and make content in both languages.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started creating content in social media just for fun. I was staying at home taking care of my daughter and I thought why not try it. I was a little bit shy at the beginning a little bit scared of what people were going to think of me but I did it. I started my fitness journey after I had my daughter two years ago and decided to post my workouts and progress on social media. I also started making humor videos, the more videos I made the more comfortable I felt. I overcame my fear of what others would think of me and I just jumped to it and I’m proud of it. People started liking them and then I realized some of my audience spoke only one language either English or Spanish and I started creating content in both and that helped me reach a bigger audience. Something I am very excited about is to be able to create content for brands with paid partnerships. I never thought I was going to be able to do that. I post pictures or videos to help brands promote their merchandise. I’m also thankful to be able to make videos on Instagram and get rewarded. I hope I can continue getting opportunities working with more brands and I want people to know that we can achieve lots of things if we leave the fear aside. The fear of making mistakes and not trying. Sometimes we just have to do it and if things do not work exactly the way we want we can always try something different or try again,

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’ve been living in Tucson Arizona for almost 6 years and I feel that it is a nice place to live. We have the stunning Sonoran desert, there’s beautiful hiking trails, starry nights and great cuisine. If a friend was visiting I would take them to the gym with me. I’ve met the coolest people there and some of them are my close friends. I would also take them to go for a hike and go have breakfast afterwards. if its too hot maybe going bowling I went the other day and had a lot of fun. I also love getting coffee and relaxing at the pool. St. Philips plaza would be another place to visit. You can find the farmers market there, restaurants and other shops. In the afternoon I would say going downtown for a walk and stop for ice cream or tacos. We have a lot of options for good Mexican food here.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I feel that there are many people in my life that deserve recognition. My husband and friend someone that has always been there to support me no matter what. He always says if it makes you happy do it. My sister and close friends for always encouraging me to try different things, for giving their honest opinion, trying things with me and for always cheering me up. My parents who might not understand social media but always have my back. To everyone else who has been there to support me giving me encouraging and kind words when I think I can’t do something. I really appreciate it, you guys have no idea. I feel that I am the person who I am today thanks to all the support I’ve had from the people that love me.
