We had the good fortune of connecting with Kianna Parker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kianna, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Work life balance has a whole new meaning to me since becoming a mom, especially as a solo parent. I constantly remind myself that life has seasons of it’s own and each will bring a new sort of balance. My priority will always be my daughter, but sometimes that means I have to think long term. What I show her by example is what matters, is what will define how she views life. Previously, she was home with me almost consistently while I worked from home which was a balancing game of its own. In this current season, I make sure I block off time on my calendar every single day for at least an hour, dedicated only to her because I work 6-7 days a week. I live by my calendar now, and that’s okay, but will it always be this way? No, I live season to season.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My dad always told me I would be an entrepreneur. I remember making bracelets when I was 7 just to set up a stand on our old dirt road in case someone came by and wanted one. As I grew up I was always searching for a role that would allow me to use my creativity AND serve people, in some way. Additionally, I have always liked to experiment to see how far I could push myself.

Fast forward to now, I found it. Being a cosmetic tattoo artist allow me to tap into every role I crave because not only do I get to help people feel more confident in themselves (my personal favorite part), but I get to be creative. On top of that I just thoroughly enjoy all aspects of running a business; from marketing/branding, to building relationships with my clients, it’s the chaos I thrive in.

What sets me apart is my tenacity. I come from a sales environment and have always resented how most people who sell a product or service can’t grasp that the process is not about them, it’s about the client. I will not only perfect the art I provide, but also make sure my client’s feel comfortable with me as a human. If you love what I did for you, but didn’t enjoy spending 2-4 hours in the suite with me then I still failed. And for me, that’s unacceptable.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This is such a great question because I have forced almost all of my closest friends to visit Arizona since moving here 4 years ago. There are endless options of how to spend your day! Typically my style is to combine the beautiful views of northern AZ, with the vibe of city life here in the valley.

We start by grabbing coffee on day 1, at my favorite coffee shop, Bergie’s in downtown Gilbert. Then we start a quick roadtrip up north to Sedona where we spend the day hiking about. Based on the friend, it would depend where we spend the rest of our time. If they enjoy shopping, Scottsdale. If they enjoy an artsy vibe, downtown phoenix or Tempe. Food is a whole other story…I can’t even narrow down my favorite places.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I owe my life and all of my success to my daughter, Reese. Without her I would not have the confidence in myself to make such a bet of starting my own business. She has provided me with the desire to live life big, in a way that makes me feel happy and aligned. I am determined to be a good example for her.

Additionally, I would not be here, as a cosmetic tattoo artist, without my mentor/owner of NK.B (whom I work under) Nina Streich. I could not ask for a better human to learn from. Thank you for believing in me.
