Meet Keivon Hemmings | Music Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Keivon Hemmings and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Keivon, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think taking risks is the way to move past the margin you’ve set for yourself internally. I think one of the only ways to get in more comfortable positions is to make yourself uncomfortable. Taking risks opens the door to worlds you didn’t know existed. It has helped me make connections and get into places that I wouldn’t have been had I not taken any risks. I honestly think I can take a whole lot more!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I make music. I live music. I AM music. My brand is what sets me apart as someone who is interested in perfecting my craft, being visible to the artistic world, and helping others come up in similar paths as well. I got to where I am today by pursuing my love of music and creating based on my emotion. I want to speak my truth in music and I want people who are going through the same things as I am to listen and feel like they are being heard and are not alone. I make music for the sad times and for the clubs too. Although I still feel that I have so so much more growing to do, it was not easy to get to where I am now. There were so many obstacles to jump over and so many people who may have felt that I didn’t have it, but I am still working to prove them wrong. Staying consistent is key, and although it can be very hard sometimes, just imagining the end goal can keep you going. I want everybody to know what I am about: being true, a leader, and eventually becoming someone and/or something that is legendary. My music will live longer than me, and I will see to that.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m really into good food!! I’m from Newark, NJ, a hotbed for culture where some of the best food in the state of NJ is found. I also really like eating food all around the area in surrounding towns like Montclair, Jersey City, and anywhere that has great food. The beauty about NJ is that we have a little bit of everything: the beach, farmlands, hiking trails, inner cities, quiet suburbs, history, art, music, really everything! First, I would take them to eat some soul food at Vonda’s Kitchen in Newark, NJ, or to Burger Bound also in Newark. Then depending on weather, we can hit up Six Flags in Jackson, NJ or go down the shore. Hoagito’s is one of my favorite spots to eat in Belmar, NJ as well, so we can definitely eat there near the beach. Since I live so close to NYC, that’s definitely one of my favorite spots too. I’m a big city guy, so hopping on the train and just exploring without any real plan is a lot of fun sometimes too.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I definitely want to shoutout everyone who has ever supported me in my journey like my older brothers and sisters, my mother, my best friends, and mentors throughout my life.
