Why they do what they do

We asked some of the city’s leading artists and creatives to tell us about how they decided to pursue an artistic or creative career. We’ve shared some highlights below.

I pursued an artistic career because I was born into our family jewelry store, Leon Ness Jewelry Barn. Being an artist was apart of the deal. I grew up repairing jewelry, painting-repairing-upholstery furniture, quilting, and making clothing. Read more>>

The very first reason I pursued an artistic career was because so many of my family members pushed me to just go for it. The main person I am very grateful for is my husband he would stay up late nights creating all of my party creations with me and never once gave up on me. Read more>>

At the time, it was all I knew. I couldn’t land a simple summer job as a teenager. So during the summer, I gathered up friends and we filmed small action scenes.
