Meet Tabathia Smith | Wife, Mom and Laser Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tabathia Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tabathia, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Tenacity.

I have dedicated myself to my craft for over 7 years now. I have nurtured, practiced and failed many times but no matter what, I always have always persisted and pushed through.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The Adorned Fox blossomed from a woman in the midst of motherhood who just wanted to remind herself that she still matters–aside from her roles of wife and mom. My craft allows me to have that mental break to just create and I have found it’s something I’ve desperately needed. I am most proud of the hard work that has gone into building my business. It was a dream of mine to own a laser machine, and in 2017 that dream came true. Then I started dreaming of creating larger items and wanting a larger laser just for that and in 2020, I was able to get my dream laser machine. It’s definitely proof that with hard work and dedication, many things are possible.

My business, grew up in a sense, in the best time of social media. Instagram was where it was at and through sharing the process of my art in video form, I was able to grow a good size audience. It was not easy and was very time consuming but it brought forth so many amazing opportunities.

I have learned to protect yourself and your business if it something you want to pursue long term. Recently, I had to file for a federal trademark against possibly having to rebrand. It was a very anxious time for me and something I wish I had done sooner.

Part of my story:
What started as a long time love for hand lettering quickly turned to a love for all arts. Through dedication and very hard work, I have continued to expand the variety of items I make. I’ve done this purely for the joy and passion I have to create. Most items will have a country+farmhouse feel and feature fonts and lettering. Adorn means to make life more beautiful and that is one of the goals I set when I create each item.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Our downtown in Greenville, SC is award winning and has been featured in countless articles. From eats, to shops to landscapes, it has a lot to offer. I love Jianna, an Italian restaurant that is incredible. It has views of Falls Park and amazing food. There’s parks and trails for outdoor activities that are extremely popular. I also love Coffee Underground as a little dessert/coffee hangout.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Oh wow, I owe everything that I have accomplished with my small business to my husband–for always supporting my ideas and most importantly my customers. Some have been dedicated followers since my chalkboard lettering days and have been by my side ever since and watched my story blossom into what it is today.
