We had the good fortune of connecting with Katia Valenzuela and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Katia, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The idea for our business began when my husband and I got engaged and we searched for vendors that fit our wedding aesthetic. We found it difficult to find specific pieces and services in Tucson, so we decided to create and build things ourselves. Once we were fully immersed in the process we realized how much we enjoyed the energy and excitement that comes along with having a wedding. Creating a business where we get to spend time together and be a part of others’ celebrations has been very special and rewarding for us.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The Tipsy Tuxedo offers flexible bartending services with the option of including different bar set ups to fit our client’s aesthetic. We offer our services as a newly married couple who was in the same position that are clients are currently in not too long ago, so we know what to expect and how to provide the best experience possible. We are most proud of our converted horse trailer that we have made into a modern mobile bar. It adds the special touch to any outdoor event and is very versatile. The biggest lesson we have learned is to network and meet as many vendors involved in the industry as possible. This allows us to recommend others to clients, as well as be recommended. We want the world to know that we are flexible and can provide great bartending services regardless if our setups are added or not; meaning that if a bar area is provided we are more than happy to accommodate our clients.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Tucson is the first place in the United States to be honored with the Capital of Gastronomy designation, so the list of delicious eats seems endless. The first place that comes to mind is Ermanos Bar because they have a fun atmosphere that ranges from nightlife to Sunday brunch. Their food is amazing and they are constantly adding new things to their menu. The Box Yard is an outdoor area that is made up of converted shipping containers and includes multiple bars and restaurants to choose from. Tucson Hop Shop is another favorite spot that is known as an Urban Beer Garden with a wide selection of craft-beer and wine. Although they don’t provide their own food, many food trucks stop by and offer delicious food to pair with drinks. One of their common food trucks is Ciao Down, and the provide delicious made-to-order pizza including their famous “Snake Bite”. They have grown so popular in that area that they have purchased a space across from the Hop Shop and plan to open this October!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Moriah Parrish Photography has been an amazing support system who has been kind enough to photograph a few of our events. This has allowed us to produce gorgeous photos that emphasize the type of experience we want to offer our clients.
