Meet Glacier.WAV | Glacier.WAV (pron: glacier-wave) is a dynamic electronic synthwave band out of Tucson, AZ.

We had the good fortune of connecting with Glacier.WAV and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Glacier.WAV, what’s the end goal, career-wise?
As a band, our first goal is to write, release, and perform our best work. By doing so we hope to connect with a fan base and work with an independent record label to promote our music through touring. We aim to be self-sustaining independent musicians.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Hello! We are Glacier.WAV (pronounced: glacier-wave) from Tucson, Arizona. We are a three piece electronic synthwave band featuring multi-instrumentalist Frank Anzaldua, vocalist Jaime J. Soto, and bassist and guitarist Dan Singleton. The three of us have been friends and collaborators for many years. Together we formed Glacier.WAV sometime around 2016.
Soon after our formation we began writing and recording music for our debut album. After years of work, and with inspiration from Prince, Com Truise, and Depeche Mode, we released our self-produced debut during lockdown on February 14, 2021 (Valentine’s day & Arizona’s birthday). The album was accompanied by an official music video for the opening song “I Want To Feel The Sun,” directed by Dan and Gabe Singleton. The futuristic video was shot amongst the many saguaros here in our Sonoran desert using various special effects and superhero-esque costuming. This song in particular is special because it was a song we produced via email file sharing while in lockdown. The song discusses feelings of isolation brought on by the pandemic along with concern for what our government hadn’t done to protect us. It was the final song we made for the album and proves to be one of our favorites. The song fit perfectly into our album theme that mirrors present day global anxieties like climate change, government failure, pandemic isolation, and romantic deficiency. Using the nostalgic sounds of synthwave, epic synthesizers cascade across each emotionally charged track while introspective vocals ponder the pains of humanity.
After all the years of work, the most amazing moment has been watching the album receive local praise. It was included in Tucson Weekly’s year end top 10 albums list. It also received frequent airplay on KXCI Community Radio charting at #66 on KXCI’s top 100 albums list. Downtown Tucson Radio’s Radio Oscura debuted the album for us and spun it regularly. The song “Colony Collapse” was featured on popular synthwave Youtube channel, Neon Nights.
Another rewarding experience has come from delivering our heartfelt performances at venues like Club Congress, Groundworks, The Coop, & Thunder Canyon Brewery in Tucson. We’ve received many compliments from concert goers and peers alike. Perhaps the most powerful compliment came from a fellow artist who said, “Tonight, you made people feel like they saw a piece of you.” We are humbled and grateful. The takeaway has been to write and perform music with honesty and from our hearts.
We are currently writing new music with hopes of touring and finding label support. We are committed to whatever the future brings and open to all possibilities.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
In Tucson we would definitely check out a live music show at Groundworks and the Rialto Theatre. We would tour Tucson’s famous community radio station KXCI FM. We’d catch a meal at Obon Sushi. And I couldn’t let them leave without seeing the Saguaro National Park. You can’t beat the desert sunset in Tucson!
In Phoenix we’d eat at the Coronado and grab a pastry and coffee at Dark Hall. We’d see live music at Crescent and a local show at Trunk Space.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We would like to shoutout our listeners and everyone who has attended a performance along with KXCI FM, Radio Oscura, Groundworks, The Coop, Rev Wyn, & Weekend Lovers for all the support.
