Working hard or hardly working?

What’s the right balance between work and non-work time? The traditional 9-5 has slowly disappeared with the emails and zoom and texting going far beyond traditional business hours. We asked members of our community to share with us how they think about work-life balance.

Self-care has become a huge area in my life and something I am always improving on. My day job is working as a therapist. I have come to realize that I cannot be a “helper” and have space to assist people with their needs if I am not taking care of myself. This notion of taking care of myself started as a focus for my blog: https://selfscience.org. I wrote about several self-care skills and activities and did them. This ensured that I was practicing what I preach. Also, when I made room for my hobbies and my creative activities, I felt happier and more fulfilled. This is a beautiful topic and balance is a word that I have cultivated a deep relationship with. We live in a system that encourages us to constantly be working in our summer, always going, and leaving little time for rest. This system can become toxic, we become sick, ungrounded, and depleted. I lived in that system for many many years, we were all raised into it, and at times I can fall back into it. I ended up getting really burnt out and it took me some time to recover and feel whole again. Read more>>

I have definitely shifted my perspective on balance over time. Right now with law school and being a paralegal I have to incorporate yoga and exercise into my life in order to come back to my center. I do believe balance is important to live a happy and fulfilling life. Read more>>
