We had the good fortune of connecting with Joley Paige and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Joley, what inspires you?
I’m inspired by Arizona’s resilient spirit. We have such a complex and deep history – there are many stories of strong Arizonan women that I find inspiration in.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I feel extremely lucky because I’m passionate about both my day job and my creative endeavors. By day, I am a material planner for a cannabis company. The industry itself is in it’s infancy, so it is really exciting to be a part of how its supply chains are set up. I feel like I still am learning something new every day.
I grew up in a small company owned mining camp named Morenci so it is sometimes hard for me to believe that I now get to live in the 5th largest city in the country, work at the planning level for an upcoming industry, and create things I’m passionate about.
I’ve always been passionate about government and politics, but I really felt a call to do more during 2020. We were all inside and wanted to find a way to use our voice. I found that outlet on TikTok. I first started talking about Arizona politics late 2020.
I hadn’t expected much to come of it, ya know? Just another person yelling about something on the internet. But, I got a response I wasn’t expecting. People wanted to know and learn more.
Since then, I worked on building the account and trying to find both teachable and humorous moments where I could over the last two years.
I knew I wanted to do more with the account and thought that the upcoming midterm election was a great opportunity to raise awareness and educate fellow Arizonans. I had been sitting on the idea of a podcast series interviewing some of my own personal Arizona heroes and their thoughts on the current state of things. I added interviews with people who were on the ballot and thus; Accountable Arizona, the podcast, was born. I would also post clips of the interviews on TikTok to hopefully reach younger voters.
The most valuable lesson I’ve learned over the past few years is that we should all create more things that we want to create, even if they don’t come out exactly how we wanted them to. I know each podcast episode wasn’t perfect, but if I was ever going to complete the project; I had to keep creating anyway.
I also found the courage to finally try out stand up comedy this way. I kept paralyzing myself, because I thought that first set had to be perfect, and each set after that also perfect. But, that isn’t the secret to doing something at all. It’s many failed and sometimes ugly attempts.
Not many people can say that they grew up in a mining camp, and fewer can say that they got to leave and become a stand up comedian, materials planner, and podcast host. I hope that I can keep creating and remind people that they should also use their own passions to create.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I feel like my boyfriend, friends, and family deserve most of the credit. I wouldn’t be anywhere without their support.
