Meet Ashley Gevon | Cosmetologist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley Gevon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ashley, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Growing up with three sisters, you can imagine how crazy getting ready in the mornings would be. My oldest sister was the braider in our family and my mom went to her for all of our cute little hairstyles. One day I remember her ranting about how she was tired of doing our hair and it was time for us to learn how to ourselves. Once I picked up the skill, my love for hair just took off from there. I knew that I was gifted but I didn’t take it serious until it was the only thing I had left. I had a child young and his father passed away when he was only 11 months old. I became a single parent and I needed a flexible job where I could make my own hours and still be present in his life, so I became a full time hairstylist.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets me about is my ability to not only give my clients a great hair do, but my professionalism and great communication skills. Everyone feels welcome in my chair and I can truly say I provide an exceptional experience. I have come this far in my career simply because of Gods Grace. He has made it possible to get past certain obstacles and I owe him all the credit. My journey to become a cosmetologist and a salon suite owner was not easy. I failed a lot and sometimes I did not feel like continuing on but I never gave up. I had to learn discipline and how to control my emotions so that I could be a great business owner and hair stylist no matter what life threw at me. I want the world to know that I am just like a lot of you. I was raised by a single mom. I’ve dealt with trauma and have been faced with a lot of adversity while trying to pursue my dreams. I created Gevons salon to not only cater to beautiful women, but to also be a mentor or someone for other young girls just like me to look up too. I hope to inspire girls to look beyond their circumstances in order to get to what god truly has for them.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would first invite my best friend to get her hair done at my salon studio! Nothing says, “ I’m ready to have a good time” then a beautiful head of bouncy curls. We’d probably have brunch at my favorite restaurant at the Venetian hotel and spare a few hours for some much needed shopping! I would also take her to look at a view of the entire city as the night ends. You really don’t want to miss out on seeing the city lights!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate this story to my best friend and father of my son. Who pushed me to pursue cosmetology, he saw how gifted I was before I even realized it myself.
