We had the good fortune of connecting with Nanushka Photography and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nanushka, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?

I am from New Jersey. For many years, I was a contract photographer with the Philadelphia Inquirer and freelancer for the New York Times/New Jersey section. Working for daily newspapers conditions you to focus and deliver.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a self-taught photographer. I began my career shooting for the Philadelphia Inquirer’s zoned New Jersey section. At the time I began, we were shooting, developing, printing black and white film then transitioning to color film and finally, digital. I learned to see through the lens and focus on the story behind the capture. My assignments ranged from features to spot news to real estate as well as filing images from the Middle East while on trips. Working for daily papers gave me the skills to find the “story” quickly and deliver factual yet compelling images within tight deadlines.

Creative shoots are my favorite. I love the challenge and the process of creative shooting. My end goal is directing films.

My photo sessions include: Portraits, Seniors, Engagement, Family, Couples, Maternity, Newborn, Weddings, Elopements, Branding, Editorial, Fashion, BTS stills. Let’s shoot!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take my best friend to beautiful areas as well as out of the way sites, beginning with the Superstitions then to Sedona, the Salt River areas, and trek down to the Chiricahua Mountains for a mystical adventure. We’d stop at local restaurants and book rooms in guest lodges.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I credit my parents for establishing a strong work ethic with a dedication to overcoming challenges and a clear focus.
