We had the good fortune of connecting with Backwood Biddy and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Backwood, do you have a budget?
Everybody has a budget. It’s about what you do with it. My budget varies depending on the project but I don’t let that limit me whenever it comes to my creativity. In this day of age we have all the tools we need to succeed in the palm of our hands. I see a lot of artists struggle to take advantage of that, but the ones that do usually have exponential growth. I try to be the later, regardless of budget.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My music stands out because it’s creative and authentic. I find a way to express whatever it is I’m expressing through the music and I stay true to how I feel and what I believe while doing it. My music and artwork gains respect from peers and listeners/viewers alike because of my ability to direct a project. I‘ve learned that the ability to make something visually aesthetic is the ability to turn heads, and turning heads builds notability. I want my music & art to uplift not just a single person but entire communities. And every one person who I can touch through music become apart of that community.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m from Pittsburgh so if we going to the Burgh than I’ve got a few! First off we hit the strip district and visit Salem’s Grill! Authentic Halal food, you can’t go wrong with that! Depending on the time of year, and wether or not Matt Canada is still Offensive Coordinator of the Steelers, we might stop by Heinz Field to catch a game! We’ll have to stop by my uncle’s diner as well, Grandma B’s on Wylie Ave in the Hill District is a CANT MISS! Plenty to do in the Burgh, but you’ll have to come see for yourself!
In Phoenix, I’m still new! So I’m still learning all the places tucked away in the fabric of the city myself! We’ll have to come back to that one in a couple years!!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
SHOUTOUT MOMMA DUKES!!
My mother has always supported me & my music! She’s always shared my songs and helped me book a few shows as well! Truthfully I could never repay her!
