Meet Meet SL Redd | Songwriter & Label Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with SL Redd and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi SL, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Honestly, I am a writer by nature. I have and always will write when I get the feeling or inspiration to do so. Once I got the chance to share my writings with an audience, along with the exhilaration that comes with performing and receiving crowd-reaction…..I became motivated to share my creations as much as possible. I love interacting with new people, I love performing and I love to create. It was only right that I create my label so that I could not only legitimize, but also maintain control as a creator. My listeners can always expect to get all authentic content from me as an artist.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me apart from other artist is my grit. Since I started as an artist, I have never been afraid to interact with others in order to form new connections. I connect with clubs, promoters, fans, blogs, etc, all for the opportunity to share my music to those who will listen. Coming from Detroit, one thing that is imbedded in me is hustle and determination. That combination has led me to where I am today.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I were to show some one a good time here in Phoenix, I would have to of course treat them to a delicious meal at Lolo’s Chicken & Waffle! What I love about Lolo’s is there is also good music and drinks so you can hang out for a while after your meal. For a night of clubbing, we would then have to head to the Sand Bar in Gilbert! It’s always a nice crowd and live atmosphere until it’s time to go home. Of course for entertainment, we would check out Crescent Ballroom in downtown Phoenix! There we get good food, drinks and local entertainment all in one!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Jesse Teer. Not only is he an artist (The Senators), he created a space for songwriters to perform their music. Jesse created “Wednesday Wednesday” which is a weekly showcase of local artist and creators. This has been a primary space for me to share new music with an audience. Shout out to Jesse Teer for being an awesome artist and promoter! Love to work with him!
