We had the good fortune of connecting with Marcy Alvarez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marcy, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
Hello! Thank you for having me! So, I was born in the Dominican Republic, and my Parents moved to New York when I was just two years old. New York was home for most of my life and it shaped me and left me with the most beautiful memories. Being a New Yorker, people-watching was something I inevitably did while being at the park, or riding the subway. Observing people and how they interacted with the ones they loved, trying to guess what their story was, was so fascinating to me. This definitely carries over to my style of Photography. Although I do love a beautifully posed photo, my favorite photographs are those that are candid, that show genuine reactions, human connection, and that tell the story of the couple, the family or how the events of a day naturally unfolded.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Being a photographer is a creative outlet for me. Every photographer has a unique style, in the way they shoot and how they edit their photos, and finding my own was such a fun process. But the absolute best part of what I do is getting to document the most important moments in peoples lives, and capturing memories that they’ll have and cherish forever.

Honestly, it started off as a hobby. Ive had a passion for Photography since I was a child. I remember being captivated by black and white portraits. In 2022 I decided to take my Hobby and turn it into a small business. The photography part is what I love and what comes natural to me, the business side however, was a whole other story haha!
I had no idea how much work was to be done on the back end. It’s been interesting and fun researching and learning how it all works. I also greatly appreciate my fellow Photographers who have helped and supported me in any way during this Journey.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Arizona has some truly incredible places. In northern Arizona my favorite places to go and appreciate Nature are: Antelope Canyon and Horseshoe Bend. The views are indescribable. There is truly nothing like it. Last but not least, Sedona!! The red rocks are so beautiful and unique. One of my favorite places to photograph In.

Then, in the Phoenix Metropolitan area , I love downtown phoenix for the city views and Diverse food. One of our favorite eateries is Il Bosco Pizza! Being a New Yorker, you know I’m picky with my pizza , and this one Is my favorite in Arizona.

Lastly, We love The Tempe Town Lake Marina. It is so beautiful and peaceful, and the views of the Mill Avenue Bridges in the evening make it such a perfect spot for couples Photos.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Absolutely! My incredible husband, who’s my best friend and biggest supporter ever in anything I do, our two sweet babies who inspire us everyday, and our amazing family and friends. Without their constant love and support, It wouldn’t be possible.
