We had the good fortune of connecting with Benny Domino and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Benny, what inspires you?
I’m inspired by lots of things. Inspiration can be as simple as a melody or lyrics to a song and as complex as thought experiments on what it’d be like to travel deep space. Love is at the core of all of my endeavors and so I also draw a lot of inspiration from romanticism. I have a vivid and wild imagination and I find joy in bringing my thoughts to life, as close as possible to the references in my mind. Creativity is a super-power.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My designs are fun, original and fresh. What sets me apart is simply my creativity in general; I have to be inventive because my current medium is drop-shipping and I’m often working within limits established by my manufacturers. I enjoy the challenge of figuring out ways to present my ideas in spite of these limits, without sacrificing my ideas. Incidentally, that’s how I got to where I am today, by utilizing all of my resources to the max. I am an artist who happens to design and I believe this is reflected, flaws and all, in the Savou brand.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well, my best friend has never-ever come to visit me in Phoenix [laughing]! Make sure you keep that in there too! But for a long weekend we’d definitely have to hit restaurants Hillstone and Sushiholic in the Biltmore area then we’d go buzz around Central Phoenix for some drinks. Maybe post up at the Pemberton or something like that; I also really like the Odyssey Aquarium in Scottsdale and driving further north to Bearizona. I’ve met some really cool “off the grid” people in AZ who have introduced me to some dope spots! I could keep naming stuff…

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are plenty of folks who have poured into me once I decided to pursue fashion and art including my mom, other family, friends, etc. If I had to pluck one out of the bunch to highlight, I’d have to say fellow artist and friend Paula Weiner has always been and is still is, very supportive and believes in my talent when even I have doubts. She’s pushed me to think outside the box creatively and introduced me to the editor of the first print publication to feature me, way back in 2006. Paula is unconventional and free in her expression of art and though our styles are very different, what I’ve been able to assimilate from her over the years is incalculable.
