We had the good fortune of connecting with Lara Shahin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lara, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The main goal is to create an income for me and my family, and also to create job opportunities for Syrian refugee women in Jordan through economic empowerment and access to the labor market.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Jasmine’s uniqueness is related not only to its products and services but also to the experience served to customers. This experience has physical aspects and cultural dimensions. This comes through its products that are organic and ecofriendly, high standards and medium range prices. The long-term goal of this is to have a social environmental awareness and impact starting in Jordan in particular and the region as a whole. For training service; it’s worthy of mentioning that Jasmine’s trainings are a way to transfer heritage of professional crafts and handicrafts from an experienced woman to new generation; locally and internationally. Our core competences are:
● Responding to cultural needs: Jasmine has taken all cultural and heritage preferences and responded to the Jordanian, Palestinian, and Syrian cultures in regard to soap making and embroidery.
● Eco-friendly Products: Jasmine uses 100% organic products for clean energy and green ecosystem.
● Women: Jasmine is supporting Syrian women to be more productive and self-sufficient as a step towards eradicating gender inequality.
● Distribution: Jasmine is trying to expand its marketing strategy to be more international by establishing an online website and allow e-payments.
● Alliances: Jasmine benefited from the growing trends in e-marketing and conducted more cooperation with e-tourism websites.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would like to start by visiting Jasmine’s headquarters and getting to know the women there, and then eating the best Syrian food that these women prepare. However, this does not preclude taking a beautiful tour, the best of which is visiting the center of the country, and doing a few activities offered by a group of young men and women, such as doing a cooking or visualization experience around the country, or riding a bike and visiting the Roman amphitheater.
One of my favorite restaurants is Tal Rumman outside the city. It has a great atmosphere and serves very tasty food

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Yes, and she is my mother. She was the first to encourage me with the idea of the project and provided me with the initial capital, in addition to that she was with me side by side until today and since she developed her skills through the project and began to train and manufacture as well.
