Meet Josh Adams | Wedding Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Josh Adams and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Josh, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
So many people think that a wedding photographer just comes in and takes photos and don’t understand why we charge so much. Sure, you can find a new-ish photographer or a family friend to take photos for a much cheaper cost, but what will that cost get you?
Those of us photographers that focus on and photograph weddings spend countless hours honing our skills to be as accurate and efficient as we can on a wedding day, to ensure we don’t miss those pivotal moments. We spend thousands upon thousands of dollars on the right equipment, websites, galleries, sample products, training and advertising, insurance and other business expenses just like any other.
My job is to tell the story of a wedding day and capture the memories from that (hopefully) once in a lifetime event!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My goal is to capture unique, but true moments from a couple’s wedding day. In order to do that, I spend hours (either in person or remotely) talking with my potential clients and clients alike to make sure that we have a shared vision of what to expect on the wedding day. I excel in my business with my personality, my clients become almost friends of mine.
I got to this point in my business by LOTS of trial and error. I’ve spent countless hours photographing on my own time, attending seminars and taking courses to build a business structure that suits my clients as well as myself.
It definitely was not easy, or cheap. But WELL worth it. Focusing on the client relationship has changed my business for the better. It allows for my potential clients to truly see the passion that I have and that puts them at ease to trust that I will get the job done.
I’ve learned that it’s all about people. People want to have fun, but also know that they’ll be well taken care of on such an important time in their life.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well, seeing as how I’m a born and raised Tucsonan and all of my best friends have been that way since we were children, they already know what we’re going to do.
But, if it were a friend of mine that isn’t from here:
I would take them 1st to Saguaro National Park East and show them the beauty that even a desert can have.
Then I would take them down to Tombstone to get a glimpse of what the wild west was like.
We’d end up going to Dinner at my favorite restaurant, Hops Sports Grill, and end the trip with some star gazing on my property in Vail.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Most importantly, my wife and kids who support me through the long hours away, missed weekend events and hours hidden away in the office editing photos. Then there’s the photography community, both local and across the country who share, help and teach different aspects of owning and running a successful photography business.
