Meet Sherri Brookshire-Roberts | Safety Defense Specialist &Habilitation Therapist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sherri Brookshire-Roberts and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sherri, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
To start off, my initial plan was to create a safety system for my daughter whom was diagnosed with Autism at a very young age. She’s becoming of age and I wanted to create a safety system for her while she’s out in public. A safety system that I could utilize to keep track of her while she’s not with me. Wanting to create something that I was comfortable with as her parent incouraged me to not only create a safety system for my child but also for individuals with special needs. Which then evolved into me creating and selling safety defense items for all individuals.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m very proud to say that I am a college graduate. The one accomplishment Ive always wanted to succeed at was graduating with a degree. I just recently graduated with my Associates in Applied Science Degree from Glendale Community College(class of 2022), and I also have my certificate for Developmental Disability Specialist. Ive always told my children that Im going to do it because then that shows them that if Mommy can do it so can they. While in the process of completing my degree I learned so much about people and how the brain and body works. I am a mom of 5 and also working part-time as my daughter’s HAH(habilitation therapist). I guess I would say the most challenging part of this process has been balancing school, work, home, the kids, business and having a child with a disability. It’s hard but I can honestly say I’m doing it! When times get tough I’ve learned to practice self love and mindfulness(something else I learned in school). I always say self-care is the best care. I learned that I can’t save anybody else if I can’t help myself. You have to put yourself first and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. So I always set time aside for myself. When people see me, think of my brand or my business I want them to think of being strong, independent, Self reliant. I want them to think of protection and safety. I want women to feel safe, and comfortable being out in public by themselves. I want people to know that my brand represents empowerment for EVERY individual.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would definitely tell her to come around First Friday. First Friday is definitely a must when visiting. I absolutely love vending at this event because it allows me to connect with different groups of individuals. I’d also take her to Wed night poetry night. A soulful event with up and coming artist. It’s live music and good poetry. Very chill vibe the whole time. I also love going Downtown because we have so many hidden gems, I had no clue how much downtown Phoenix has to offer. I literally try to go downtown on an adventure atleast once a Month With my Husband to explore. Food experiences that I would take her to is a place called “Hot Pot for Days.” They have fresh veggies, meats, and seafood. You basically cook your food in a broth and it’s extremely healthy. We’d definitely travel to a few local spots like Flagstaff and Sedona. It gives you the opportunity to see the outdoors.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My Daughter, with her having a disability, it has taught me a lot of things throughout the years. Watching her grow and fight through adversities shows me how strong I can be. Watching her push forward despite being told what she wouldnt be able to do is a blessing. She’s my hero and I dont even think she knows it! Also, knowing that she depends on me encourages me to be the best Mommy I can be.
