We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Doberneck and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessica, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I grew up touring model homes on the weekends with my parents for fun! I thought this was a normal family weekend activity – No, it’s not. Haha. But it sure was for my family! I had developed design, layout, and floorplan opinions before I knew my multiplication tables.

I also helped my parents remodel our home one project (or repair) at a time. I actually didn’t know what a contractor was until my husband and I bought our first home. I was just so used to my dad fixing everything, I didn’t even realize there was a whole career field for contractors.

I went off to college and I toyed with pursuing many majors; architecture, graphic design, communications, and interior design. But I finally settled with and obtained my degree in Business Management Entrepreneurship. The overarching umbrella of what I loved about all these skills put together was entrepreneurship.

I spent 10 years in a professional career doing marketing, sales management, and B2B sales while also beautifully renovating our first 2 fixer-upper homes in my spare time. I finally put my life’s work altogether, and I got my real estate license and was hired as an interior designer. I am a full-time REALTOR and take on 1-2 interior design projects each quarter. I love being able to help my buyers see the potential in a home, understand the general costs of any remodels, refer them to trusted contractors, and advise them on their design selections after their purchase. On the flip side, I also have the privilege of helping my sellers update their homes in preparation for selling.

My entire life has prepared me for this career and it feels like I’ve reached my personal career utopia.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a full-time REALTOR and do Interior Design on the side. Just like your average realtor, I help clients buy and sell residential homes while I also take on about 1-2 interior design projects every quarter. However, I love when I get a magical combination of both where I not only represent my buyers in the transaction of a fixer-upper as their REALTOR but I am also hired as their interior designer to turn the house into their dream home. On the flip side, I also help my sellers do necessary remodels to list their houses for top dollar. The options are endless when we combine these two worlds of realty and design!

I can easily look at a home and see clearly how to maximize the space, solve layout bottlenecks, raise the value of the home, provide a general cost to renovate, and know where the boundaries are so we aren’t over-renovating at a net loss. I also have connections with all the best contractors in the area! It takes two to tango – and the dance I do as a REALTOR and Interior Designer is QUITE the show! I absolutely love it.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
PIZZERIA BIANCO on Adam’s street! I have been recommending this place to clients for years! Even before the Netflix series. It’s seriously the best pizza ever! And you have to go for a little walk around the block after dinner. There’s a beautiful event center, rose garden, and historic buildings all within a 2-minute walk of the pizzeria.

If you’re into architecture, I suggest Frank Lloyd Wright’s house in AZ; Taliesin West. Inspiring and eye-opening work.

If you have children under 7ish, you have to visit the Phoenix Children’s Museum. My girls love it and could play for hours!

We would spend a WHOLE day in Papago Park and surrounding areas. There are so many hikes, nature walks, and stunning views of red rock and beautiful cacti. And we’d end the day walking around Fashion Square in Scottsdale hitting all the fun restaurants, shops, and desserts!

And lastly, my absolute favorite: The Phoenix Botanical Gardens just a 5-minute drive from the park. The botanical gardens are the most wholesome, peaceful activity in all of the Valley. My husband and I love it, my young daughters love it, and my parents love it! Great for all ages!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mom! My mom is the BEST cheerleader anyone could ever ask for. If I told her I wanted to fly to the moon she would believe in me every step of the way and never let me give up on that dream.
