Drea Idsardi | Life Coach

I’ve always wanted to work for myself, set my own schedule, and have the freedom to do things the way I see fit. I have always been a leader and knew I had the skills to manage my time well and the drive to overcome any obstacles that come up when being an entrepreneur. I had a vision and I took action to make it a reality, just like I encourage my clients to do! Read more>>

Amy Devine | Travel Agent

I am a college student currently working towards earning my bachelors degree in economics at Arizona State University. I began looking for internships at the beginning of 2022, but was unable to find good fits for me in the area I live in, so I began looking up remote work. I came across a part time ad for a travel agency, and that was when I started my journey of creating my travel business and building my brand. I love traveling and always have, so getting to share my experiences while also selling travel has been fun for me, because it’s something I already love to do. Read more>>

Candance Campbell | Adventure Wedding & Elopement Photographer

My thought process behind starting my own business was to create something of my own that allowed me to have a healthy income and spend more time with my little family. I was raised by my father and I grew up watching him work 2/3 jobs at a time and we never spent time together. He was always struggling and was at the mercy of someone else just to make ends meet. Sarah Moore | Artist

After seven years working in communications 9-5 and making artwork during nights and weekends, I was exhausted. I had the constant sense that there wasn’t enough time in the day to do all the things that mattered most to me. Starting my own business seemed like the best way to have more control over how I spent my time while making work I’m passionate about. I do still work a lot – much more than I did at my day job – but now I get to spend nights and weekends with friends and family rather than painting alone in my studio. Read more>>

Shauny Bennett | Sweet & Salty Maker

We started in 2020 during the pandemic. I worked for a local church and got “let go” like the rest of the world. My husband and I have 4 kids and we needed to figure out quickly how are we going to feed them? My husband and I knew nothing about baking but I had the bright idea of selling chocolate covered sweets. Then a friend of mine suggested we sell Easter DIY Cookie Kits. So we quickly learned how to bake cookies and sell kits. We made about $1500 Easter Weekend and I thought to myself, we can make money!! Read more>>

Mike Millner | Nutrition Coach & Owner of Peak Optimization Performance (POP)

I have never done well working for someone else. But I always went through life thinking I just needed to check the box because that’s what you’re “supposed” to do. Ultimately, I found myself working in the industry that I was passionate about (fitness and nutrition) but not being able to coach or teach in a way that aligned with my own values. Read more>>

Jakqueline Rayos | Makeup Artist & Content Creator

I love to attend Music Festivals and Concerts! Recently I have noticed an increase in interest in Dramatic/Artsy/Facepaint Makeup. Thats where I step in! I’ve always dreamed of someday owning a business, using my unique skills. I expand from Simple to Dramatic, that includes Eyeshadows and Eyeliners. My goal is to open a Makeup Studio and expand a Halloween event each year for facepainting people into whatever character they like! Read more>>

I was a stay at home mom to 3 beautiful children, married to a busy ENT surgeon. JOHN COGAN | Visual artist – painter

My main motivation was in doing something I love, not necessarily being my own boss. I also had to consider the practical questions: For instance, in light of the common perception of the “starving artist”, is it even possible to make a decent living as an artist. I also had to ask myself if I had – or could develop – the self-discipline needed to make myself go to work every day. Finally, I had to measure my productivity and ask if I could paint enough pictures each month to pay business expenses and have enough left over to support my family. Read more>>

Kendall Pipkin | Wood Fired Chef and Caterer

I have always enjoyed cooking delicious food for people. I have been in community organizing for large events for 7 years now and do enjoy it. During my second round of chemo (4 time cancer survivor, disabled and not in the clear yet) I decided I was gonna beat it and started making moves to get back into the work field, In my time off fighting cancer I decided I didn’t want to work for someone else again as I have always wanted to own a small business anyway. Jereme Paddock | Dog Behavior Modification Trainer

I had worked with dogs for 4-5 years in a boarding facility and then in an animal hospital prior to starting my business. In that time, I discovered a passion for understanding dogs with behavioral issues such as anxiety and aggression. My goal was to create a place where otherwise “problematic” dogs could get the help they need and to bridge that communication gap between misunderstood dogs and their owners. Read more>>

Cameron Jackson | Podcast Host & Producer

We started a recovery podcast because at the time, it felt like there weren’t very many out there. We wanted a place where we could come together and talk about the struggles we deal with while maintaining our sobriety and give others a platform to to share there stories. We have found we have a lot more in common than we think we do and that by sharing them openly, we’re able to help others who are experiencing similar challenges. Read more>>

Brenda Logan | PEMF Therapy Provider & Equine Riding Instructor

Ever since I was young, I knew that I had wanted to work for myself in some capacity. As long as I could remember, my Dad had owned his own businesses and worked for himself, and I knew that is what I wanted for myself. When 2020 and Covid rolled around, I had been working in the emergency veterinary medicine field for many years by that point. Read more>>

Natalie Schellbach | Aesthetician & Owner

Starting my own business was never the plan when I started my career in the aesthetic industry! I would have never thought I would end up being my own boss. Roxanne Weijer & Maartje Hensen | Queer Bloggers, Influencers, Photographers

In March 2017, we sold everything we had, left home (The Netherlands) behind, and started traveling full time. On the road, we started Once Upon A Journey. Initially we wanted to tell folk- and fairy tales from all around the world. But we noticed many people wanted to hear our stories, not the folk- and fairy tales. People had questions about ‘how is it to travel the world as a lesbian couple?, ‘how can you travel safely as a lesbian traveler’, ‘what are destinations to go to’, etc. Read more>>

Heidi Elyse | photographer

Honestly I never thought about owning my own business and I certainly didn’t think I would be photographing weddings! I started second shooting for a friend about 5 or 6 years ago and she was the one who encouraged me to go out on my own and start my own photography business. I’ve been very lucky to have such supportive friends, family, and mentors who have helped me grow along the way! Read more>>

Bill & Sine Kerr | Owners of Kerr Family Farms

In 2020 during our summertime farm stand at the family farm we were asked by several customers if they could purchase beef from us, seeing all the heifers we raise on site. We have always eaten our own beef, but we’ve never been approached to sell to the public before until now. It was the summer of 2020 when shelves were scarce of beef, quality and production lines were not steady. We noticed how many more new customers we had that summer, too, and that our community was very interested in supporting their local farmers more than ever before, buying local, fresh beef. If you have ever seen an animated film called “Robots” the large robot (Big Weld) has a saying, “See a need! Fill a need!” – with Podcast Village, now Podville Media, I knew there was a real need to communicate across many new types of media. As a person who worked in real estate, golf, and tourism, and finally establishing a corporate charity – the common shared need that we all have is improved communications. Read more>>
