We had the good fortune of connecting with Aaron Reed and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Aaron, what do you attribute your success to?
We believe the key to our success has been a genuine connection and engagement with our audience. A Brothers Reed show is always going to be about more than just the music. We strive to entertain and we don’t disappoint. We poke fun at each other and are self deprecating in a way that is endearing to people, and shows them that although we are serious about our art and work, we don’t take ourselves too seriously. We don’t have a massive social media following, we don’t have a super crazy life story, and we have never had any industry support; yet we continue to thrive and create new music, merchandise, and content. Our fans appreciate our openness and willingness to be ourselves no matter what we are told we should or shouldn’t be doing. They reward us with amazing loyalty. We both know that we have a fan base that is passionate about our brand and they are the ones who keep us in business by coming to shows, hiring us for private events, and buying up our merch with fervor. We really owe everything to the people that listen to us. No matter the hype, our people are with us all the way, and we love and appreciate them more than we can explain in words.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The Brothers Reed is an American roots band. We play original songs in the style of bluegrass, folk, old country, and Americana. We’ve been at this for coming up on 8 years. Both of us have been parts of bands throughout our lives with varying degrees of success but none coming close to what we’ve experienced with Brothers Reed. The journey to get to this point was not easy and required much sacrifice and a willingness to trudge forward on an artistic path, but once the ball got rolling, despite it being a ton of work, it has been beyond rewarding. The biggest lessons we’ve learned is that you can chase a dream one of two ways. You can try to fit in the box set in front of you by industry folks or you can listen to people who truly care about you and your art. We’ve done both and when we stopped caring what people who don’t care about us think, it really took the stress away and we were able to thrive artistically and emotionally. It’s a tough lesson to learn and can be scary in practice but at this point it works for us. We want the world to know that we aren’t stopping and we welcome anyone who wants on the Brothers Reed train!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Favorite Phoenix spots would hands down be the 1227 Taproom, AZ Wilderness brewery, any of the amazing trails within and just outside city limits, and the musical instrument museum. We adore all parts of Arizona. It is one the most diverse and unique states in our great nation.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Major shout out to our wives, band mates, and fans. We are nothing and would be nowhere without them and their unflinching support.
