Meet Aasia Hamid | Jewelry Designer and Instructor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Aasia Hamid and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Aasia, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I never thought my hobby of making jewelry will turn into a small business. Now, I really enjoy working from my home studio. Starting my own business gives me a flexible lifestyle, gives me opportunity to work my own hours and spend time with family.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have always been an art lover, played with different mediums of art all my life, from pottery to painting to stained glass to fused glass. Making jewelry became my passion when I found beads as my new painting palette.
There are always challenges in life. Rejections from art shows is one of them particularly in the early years of an artist’s career. But I took that as a positive and learning experience, I did what was needed to improve my art and display.
I tried to perfect the art of bead weaving through hours of practice and experimentation. I enjoy doing bead weaving, bead embroidery and kumihimo. My one piece can be a combination of many techniques.
I love teaching beadwork and kumihimo, also taking courses from other artists. My work sells at art galleries, juried art shows and on my Etsy site.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We get many friends and family visit us in Phoenix and we had the pleasure of taking them to Sedona, Grand Canyon, Horse Shoe bend and Antelope canyon.
They can be a one to two day trips. Enjoying nature, hiking and eating out are always fun activities with visitors. Mariposa Latin Inspired Grill in Sedona is our favorite, Scottsdale, Phoenix and Gilbert have many restaurants that we love to try.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
It’s not easy being an artist and running your own business. I just want to give the biggest shout out to my husband, Manzer who is my number one supporter.
He is the biggest pillar for our family, for helping me setup at art festivals, for believing in me and my artistic abilities. He’s an amazing father to our 3 girls and I am just grateful for him.
