Meet Abbi Jackson | Filmmaker & Entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Abbi Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Abbi, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
The best advice I have been given is “the top of the mountain is the bottom of the next”. I carry this with me, especially on my entrepreneur and filmmaking journey. As soon as I finish a project, it is onto the next. You never give up, you keep climbing.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have been told my videos bring out emotion. I think that was one of my favorite discoveries about my art- that I have the ability to make someone feel something. I am excited about perfecting my craft, and improving and I am excited about the short film Grapefruit Media is making this year. Stay tuned for that.
I got to where I am today professionally from trial and error. Repetition is key. “You can fail at what you don’t want, so you might as well take a chance on doing what you love.”
My brother Corey named my company. We were bouncing around names and he said Grapefruit Media. I asked why grapefruit? He replied “because you had a tumor the size of a grapefruit.” Six months before I started my company, we found a 16cm tumor in my stomach. I liked this message- that there is always more to the story. That’s how my videos and films are, and that’s how success is too. We often get caught up comparing ourselves to other people, admiring other people’s success, but you don’t know the battles they fought to get here.
These battles only make us stronger, keep going.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would start in Phoenix so I would take them to Culinary Dropout, Pemberton, Churchill. Maybe the Japanese Friendship Garden. Then I’d take them up north to the prettiest parts of Arizona. Flagstaff, Sedona, Oak Creek canyon, do some hikes. My favorite local food spots in Flagstaff are Fratelli, Mama Burger, Mother Road. I’d want to take them to see and appreciate all the nature. Arizona is one of the best states!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I honestly have the best support system in the world. I couldn’t do what I do without the love and support I receive from my family and friends. My two brothers, Cole and Corey bought me my first camera, my parents bought me a lens. My friends often read my scripts and watch my videos for feedback and criticism before I share with clients. I could write a novel about how supportive my friends and family are. I am beyond blessed.
