We had the good fortune of connecting with Abby Wing and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Abby, what matters most to you?
In our businesses we value the act of caring greatly. It is a huge part of our lives- taking care of plants and keeping them alive and thriving. We are so excited to design for client’s landscapes using this value as well. We enjoy teaching people how to care for both houseplants and outdoor landscapes and what that means in a desert environment. We design largely for wildlife and pollinators and their needs. We design so that rainwater stays onsite and sinks -returning to groundwater and feeds the landscape. I see caring as nourishing as well and that is what we want to be as a nursery. We want to care for and nourish our nursery community both people, plants and the environment. The act of caring or kindness can grow exponentially and I think that is really exciting.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am the designer for Rozet Landscape Design LLC and Co owner/manager of Rozet Nursery. It is a boutique experiential nursery and our goal is for our customers to spend time here. We hope they want to enjoy a specialty drink from Espressoul cafe, strike up a conversation, take in the mountain view, be engaged by the plants, maybe enjoy a game of ping pong and ask questions! We love to share what we know and learn from others about best practices for growing plants in the desert. I am proud and excited to offer the nursery to the Tucson community. I have dreamt of having a nursery since I was a teenager and to share my love of plants and build community in the process is really a dream come true. Both the businesses have had their challenges but the fact that both my husband and I get to share what we love most with the world and do that work together is really special.  In terms of a lesson I have learned along the way, I would say strategies for managing stress. Running two businesses with sometimes 10 employees in this ever changing economy and world creates consistant stress. Plants keep me grounded, moving forward and healthy. Taking herbs, enjoying a plant based diet, working in the garden, interacting with nature daily, learning more everyday about plants and fungi and getting to share that passion with people whether through designs or conversations keeps me excited about life and helps minimize stress.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would start at Rozet Nursery with an espresso drink from Espressoul Cafe and then stroll through Agua Caliente Park and make our way up to Redington pass for a hike. We would find Fatboysandos truck and get a mushroom rice bowl.  MSA Annex with a visit to Beaut Burger for their faux crab cakes and a walk to Tumerico’s La Chaiteria for Cuban Tacos. We could hit the bins at both Wooden Tooth and Old Paint Records and then go hang out with kitties at El Jefe Cat Cafe. We could stroll through Ponderosa Cactus Nursery, shop the pottery and take a class at Tucson Clay Co-op and check out The 9th house. We would catch a show at Hotel Congress or 191 Toole. We would check out local art galleries and bookstores.  Bookmans and Antigone are so fun. I love the mural culture of Tucson, we could visit many throughout the week. A favorite stop is The Rillito Farmers Market and St Phillips with vegan savory crepes from Planet of the Crepes. We could stop by Ensenada Street Food for their vegan breakfast and some candy at Monsoon Chocolate! I like the U of A app that guides you through the changing ecology as you drive up Mt Lemmon. We would listen to that on our way to hike  Butterfly trail and end the day with dinner from The Curry Pot and a drink at Tucson Kava Bar. We would stop in at Bhava Wellness and have a Chai at EXO roasters and a mezcal tasting for her at their new location. Oh and Stargazing!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

Well, it is a long list. My husband Scott co owns both business and they would not exist without him. Our families, and friends, nursery staff and landscape crew are all fantastic! We are also so grateful to all our customers and clients who believe in what we are doing. We have both had amazing mentors and teachers in our lives that have shaped our understanding of the work we do and took chances on us a young people. I also appreciate other small business owners in the community who have supported our efforts and join in the fun at the nursery.
Ok here are all the corrections.
