We had the good fortune of connecting with Abdul-Aziz (Yung Princey) Muhammad and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Abdul-Aziz (Yung Princey), let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?

One of my greatest qualities is my ability to accomplish anything I put my mind to. I started a kiosk business that’s been successful for 7 years. I started doing music and now I have over 180,000 streams worldwide. I want people to remember me for being a creative and a resilient entrepreneur. Any obstacle that came my way, I overcame it and prospered.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

Nothing has ever been easy for me, I’ve always had to work twice as hard as everyone else to just keep up. I’ve never had the opportunity or support system to excel. I had to create it from scratch… but my mom gave me the tools and always taught me to stand on my own two feet and not go with the crowd. Her influence on my music is obvious. She’s always been a big fan of pure artist who don’t always sound the same. So I strive to be different and versatile… I love pop and rock music as much as I love rap and r&b. I make all kinds of music and vibes.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

So to be honest, I don’t have a best friend. I don’t really cherish friendship that way… I’m a very business oriented person. I cherish business relationships and bossing people up. I love watching people grow into who they’ve always wanted to be. Most of my friends have become my business partners or employees. If not, they fell off to the waste side. That being said… I do have some favorite places in the city. I love @poeticsoulevent , south mountain is one of my favorite places to meditate, I’m a pretty simple person I like high end restaurants.. but I don’t like the way they season their food lol so if I’m not cooking for you then I might take you to longhorn steakhouse.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

I do attribute my success to reading… but most importantly my mom! She has always pushed me to be my best. One of my greatest influences, she homeschooled us until I was in 8th grade. She has always pushed us to read, improved our creative writing and she used to drag me to poetry events and open mics. She was my first teacher and I’ll never forget all of the lessons she instilled in me.
