We had the good fortune of connecting with Abigail Ann and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Abigail, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
I used to spend a lot of time focused on my work. I had a difficult time balancing my personal and work life because they were so intertwined. The thing about working on social media is that you don’t have a set ‘clock out’ time. It’s demanding because there’s an expectation to be responsive all the time. Truthfully, the way that I found a balance between work and life is separating the two. When I transitioned my work on social media to more of a hobby instead of a primary source of income, I was able to enjoy creating content more and explore other facets of life to a fuller extent.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
After years of creating content and exploring different formats and genres of content, I still haven’t found a specific ‘niche’ that I fall under. I like to experiment with different types of videos and content. I find it difficult to stick to one thing. At the end of the day, I just want to spread good news to my audience and be a source of positivity. Whether that means making them laugh, or sharing things that are important to me. There isn’t anything technical about my content that sets me apart from other creators. It’s the intention behind what I post that might stray from others’. I don’t post things for the sole purpose of being famous or gaining followers. I post things that I like and enjoy. Social media is more of a creative outlet for me than anything else, and I try not to take it so seriously that it interferes with my enjoyment of content creation.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Arizona is such a great and diverse place for people to visit. I appreciate how you can travel just a few hours and see such differing atmospheres and environments. If someone were to visit Northern Arizona, I would recommend them spending some time hiking and in the amazing state parks we have here. Exploring the surrounding nature is such a great way to get to know the area. Whether you’re driving through Oak Creek Canyon or exploring the Grand Canyon, or even if you’re camping in Flagstaff or spending a day in the Verde Valley, it’s all beautiful in its own way. You really can’t go wrong when you’re exploring Arizona.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I don’t believe I would be who I am today without the community I’ve found in the past few years. Being surrounded by people who share similar interests or passions is encouraging, but it’s also refreshing because even though we enjoy similar things, they bring new and exciting things to the table. Getting involved on campus in clubs and being a student-worker in various departments at my university introduced unique experiences that shaped me. I appreciate the friendships I’ve made along the way that have taught me about how I want to treat people and be treated.
