We had the good fortune of connecting with Shanita Patterson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shanita, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
I would love for people to remember me as an individual who cares about everyone she came in contact with while training her clients. I want them to remember that I look at them as family and I’m helping them live a long happy fun filled life by being healthy.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Starting a personal training business is not easy because you have a lot of trainers but you have to find your niche to separate yourself from the others. I bring a different perspective to training so that the client can see we are in this together. I’m definitely a people person and I get close to my clients and I see them as friends for life. I’ve learned that not all people see things in that manner and I lm learning not to get so close and personal, but I have to admit, it’s really hard not to be personal, as a personal trainer. 🙂 I can honestly say, I truly care about all of my clients both current and those that have left.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I absolutely love Sedona and that’s where we would go. We would stay at Juniper Resort they have a beautiful trail where we would hike everyday. They cabins are so beautiful and equipped with a kitchen so we would cook our healthy meals at the location. There’s a wonderful restaurant located on the resort and we would have a great happy hour, they have a great mules made. We shop all of downtown Sedona and take in a Pink Jeep tour. There is no place in Sedona that is not worth going to and we would hit them all. 😁
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband, TJ Patterson III, is my rock. He has supported me from the first time I mentioned I wanted to be a personal trainer full-time and I wasn’t happy in corporate America anymore. One of my sons told me I had sad money, lol. My husband informed me I could quit my HR position and pursue my dream. Once I started, Dr. Dominic Pisaro, Arcadia Health and Wellness stated he would be my mentor and help with any questions I may have. I have another mentor, Coach Ty Cane of Azbodybuilding, who took me under his wing to be his second in command and he shared a lot of knowledge with me to help me grow to be great.
