We had the good fortune of connecting with Adam Romano and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Adam, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
The single most important decision that I make every day that contributes to my success is my decision to be constantly present in every aspect of my process and to pour my entire effort (sometimes digging deep to find more energy than I think I have) into each and every opportunity that I am given. I recognize opportunity, I don’t take it for granted, and I reach beyond to find and create new opportunities that can showcase my value and worth within the artistic world and the greater community beyond. I use art and self-motivation to create more connections and pathways for myself, and others, to be able to follow. Each completed task of challenges does not slow down my forward momentum in business or life. Each completed challenge only fills me with additional encouragement and motivation to work harder, and deeper, into each new goal that presents itself. The way I look at it is like this: each mountain or hill that I climb in business, or in my own personal progress, clears my line of sight to be able to view bigger and more interesting opportunities. As I have progressed into the art world, the opportunities presented have began to encompass deeper and more significant chances to help others. I hope to motivate my fellow world citizens to develop a deeper understanding of themselves and the world around them. I hope to motivate others towards the pursuit of knowledge, hard work, and happiness. Through that pathway, I encourage others not to seek success, but to seek a heart-fulfilling journey of importance, and from this, success will manifest itself.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Along with tattooing, oil painting, and other fine art, I continue to give back to my local community through involvement with art-based nonprofits, educational workshops, art shows, and historical lectures. While my tattoo work is a collaboration between myself and the client, fine art allows me to express my unique artistic vision directly. My art is a macabre mixture of classical technique with a modern, realistic, and surrealistic dark aesthetic wherein I try to evoke mood and emotion ranging from curious intrigue to morbid fascination. I represent the fact of death in an observational and matter-of-fact tone that acts as a call-to-action in our own lives.

I am most excited about my dedication to the creation of art and my ability to discuss art with community members that might feel that art is disconnected from their life. I most enjoy my ability to use art as a way to connect community, inspire creativity, and facilitate acceptance. I use art as therapy and I want others to feel accepted in there own artistic pursuits, whatever those may be. Art can feel limiting to those that don’t view themselves as “creative,” but I want those people to know that they too can appreciate and develop their own creativity in whatever aspect that may be. Art is limitless and can encompass far more than just painting or drawing.

I want others to pursue their dreams and re-access and develop those goals as they grow. I continually strive for perfection in my artistic and community-based pursuits. I never achieve 100% perfection, as I am only human, but that focus helps me to be successful and achieve goals that I never thought would be possible. A constant need to prove myself, be better, and grow, has always been the key to my artistic successes. Nothing is easy, and the reward for success would be far less meaningful if it were.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in a small, desert city that is devoted to recreation and relaxation. My best friend knows this area inside and out and if they were to were to come out for a week and visit, they would know exactly where to go. My life consists of the pursuit of knowledge, artistic development, and a reconnection to nature. Based on my own goals, I would recommend that any visitor to Arizona be fully aware of their own needs and enjoyment and build a vacation plan that suits their own personality.

With that being said, the one place that I can, do, and will always recommend for a visitor to Arizona to see, is the Grand Canyon. It may be the most cliche, over-done, and most obvious answer, but it is truly a marvel and something that one must experience. Take a week to travel, in car, to every single observation point on all places surrounding the Canyon. My wife and I did this on a week long journey. We connected to nature, explored interesting aspects of the countryside, and discovered more about ourselves. One must sit and mediate on the edge of the Canyon, with eyes closed. After your mediation is complete, when you slowly open your eyes, the shear beauty of the view will leave you with a spiritual feeling that you will never forget.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My story would not have been possible if not for the incredible amount of love, support, and respect allotted to me from those closest to me in life: my wife, Ashleigh, has supported every effort that I devote to my growth and success; my mother and father, Laurie and Mike, have never wavered their emotional support towards my dedication and pursuit of success; my brother, Zach, is always willing to lend me a hand and is always there for me. I know that my success is held up by the backbone of support that these wonderful individuals have given me throughout my life.
