Meet Aj Whisler | Entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Aj Whisler and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Aj, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I grew up in Fremont, Ohio, on former farmland with a grip of horses, chickens, a 4-wheeler of some sort, and almost limitless freedom. My parents were a bit older when they had me, and I was significantly younger than my brother. and sister. My grandparents lived on the property with us, so we were constantly together doing all the things families in the midwest do. Horse shows, birthday parties, summer swimming, my brother and my racing on the weekends after we stopped showing quarter horses. I had my first job at 11, working with migrant workers in the fields at the biggest farm in the area. In my teens, my racing took me all over the east coast with my Mom and Dad at the helm of the racing rig. Looking back, my strong family ties in addition to my family’s commitment to each other showed me the values held by the older generations. As cliche as it may sound, I can still here my Mom telling me that I could achieve anything in life if I worked hard for it. My Dad was 47 when I was born, so I grew up with an older generation of thinking and doing things. I definitely strayed from those values for a short time and got caught up in the consequences of poor decisions and wrecked some relationships. At the tender age of 44 at the time of this interview, I see myself looking at business and my personal life as I believe my parents and grandparents wanted me too. Growing up, we weren’t well-off by any means. We worked hard for everything we had and had some help in racing along the way. I wouldn’t change a thing from my upbringing and the lessons learned have helped me in every aspect of life and business.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
When I started this business, I simply wanted to do better than the existing offerings in our space. If we became and could hold the standard, we would do well. When we launched, we did a few things right that led to an unforeseen compounding growth. One tough lesson I learned from a failed business is how dominant the Supply/Demand concept was in a successful business, Too much inventory and no sales or no inventory and huge demand are equally destructive, Early on, we were able to feed the machine and constantly have product available for retail partners and our own retail sales while demand continued to climb. Simple, right? As of 2023, we control our own supply on many key items allowing us to dodge supply woes our competitors experience. If I could communicate one concept to potential and current customers, is that the quality of our offerings is paramount. Our products utilize space aged coatings, leading manufacturing and finishing processes so that if our products are ever needed in a defensive manner, the end user has the best mechanical advantage to win and go home to their family.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I had a week to take any of my closest friends to my idea of the best time ever, we would spend 4 days in Havasupi falls exploring all the wonders the Havasupi Tribe have to offer. Sleeping in a hammock at the top of the roaring Mooney Falls in between day long barefoot hikes throughout the area is a life changing experience. This is taxing on the body, even to an experienced and in-shape enthusiast, so immediately following the trip, we would R/R somewhere in the Mogollon Rim with the comforts my RV provide. Food, drink, more barefoot shenanigans. Sounds like the best 7 days ever.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My wife, Brandi Whisler, held me up through the toughest, darkest times in my life. With out her endless encouragement, sacrifice, and unconditional love I would not be where I am today.
