We had the good fortune of connecting with Akisha Jenee Holland and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Akisha, why did you pursue a creative career?
I decided to pursue a career in cosmetic artistry because it blends two of the things that I am passionate about: art and makeup. I view each permanent makeup session as a live masterpiece that will enhance my clients’ natural beauty and add a more youthful appearance to their look.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am both excited and proud to own a business that helps women feel better about themselves. I am where I am today because I genuinely care about the well-being of others, not just on the outside but on the inside as well. When I ask my clients how they’re doing, I really want to know because I know life is not easy especially now, but I never want to see a person fold. I believe that I’ve overcome many challenges because of my resilient attitude towards life. I don’t believe in giving up. I’ll try a hundred different things before I give up. I’ve learned that there’s more than one way to get things done, and I’ve developed my own way of ensuring that each and every one of my clients’ experiences with me is nothing less than exceptional. The story behind Celebrity Brows by Akisha Jenee starts with a little girl from Philadelphia who always played in her grandmother’s makeup. I played in her makeup until I became a teenager. I loved all of the wonderful things that makeup artists were able to do from glamour to horror, and I told myself that I would be apart of that world. I decided to make that day soon, and I haven’t looked back since. I take such pride in being able to do make up on a professional level now because it has been a life long passion of mine.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If a friend on mine came into town, I would take her to all of my favorite restaurants and hangout spots. Here are just a few of them: My favorite spots to hang out in Phoenix/Scottsdale are – Phoenix’s Stand Up Live comedy club. Laughter is the best medicine; I love the live R & B music at Blue Martini in Desert Ridge (They play all of my jams); The Shade Lounge has a great atmosphere; and The Canal Club is so beautiful inside. Some of my favorite restaurants here in the valley are: Sumomaya, Ladera (Baja Enchiladas), Luci’s at the Orchard (Lean Machine Bowl), The Dhaba (Shrimp Palak), The Henry, Maple & Ash, Joyride (Crispy Fish Tacos and Prickly Pear Margaritas) and True Foods at the Biltmore Fashion Square (Grilled Sustainable Salmon). Thank me later! If we had time, I’d take her up to Sedona. The views in Sedona are breathe-taking. Plus, it is a haven for spiritual wellness due to the energy vortexes there.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like recognize the Advanced Permanent Cosmetics Academy for their amazing training program. They helped me get started in this industry and I’m so grateful for the love and support that they’ve shown me. I’d also like to shout out every model who trusted me in the beginning of my career. You all played a pivotal role in my growth as a Permanent Makeup Artist.
