We had the good fortune of connecting with Alethia Olmedo-Perlasca and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alethia, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
As a hypnotherapist and sport mental coach I’ve worked with different populations along the years but helping the Latino community has been the most rewarding one. Working with professional fighters like Alexa Grasso, Yair Rodriguez and Brandon Moreno has been a pleasure and a privilege to see them grow, thrive and unveil their potential. From my approach and training I strive to help people to see their strengths rather their flaws. To appreciate our resilience and opportunities. The psychology community focused for many years in the “diseases and problems” of people but from my perspective and background I’ve been encouraging clients and athletes to focus on their strengths, their ability to learn, grow and overcome obstacles when having a right mindset. As a Latino woman in a country where Latinos had learned directly or indirectly that they are flawed, less or invisible it has been an honor to work with Latino women and athletes to help them get rid off these limited beliefs and refocus their attention and intention on their strengths, abilities and their capability to learn and grow in healthier ways.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
It has been neither hard or easy. It has been a non linear path with ups and downs and certainly a lot of self awareness. I believe that always looking what is working for people, their strengths rather than their flaws and to welcome them from a place of full acceptance and empathy has been a characteristic of my practice. When I see an athlete or any person I see their goodness and their posibilites. If I could make an impact on my community it would be to question our values and to become aware of how we are perceiving reality . To challenge our perceptions and believe systems. To question our thoughts and what we have thought reality is. What we create in our minds we are creating it and reflecting it in the world.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them to the downtown area. To the local scene. To the bars and restaurants that aren’t flashy but have interesting people in them and are trying to give a different flavor to the town. I would take them to Red Rock mountain and The Valley of fire to remember or to witness the beauty we can find in the desert.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My whole family, but my father and my husband have been true teachers and guides. Both of them have show me what unconditional love and acceptance is and from this place of love I’ve been able to grow and to share this acceptance to others. The beautiful and resilient latino people I have been working with, they are a constant reminder of strength and our ability to change. We are all intertwined and by small caring actions we can have a positive impact to all of those around us.
