We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexander Sands and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alexander, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I love dogs, first and foremost but I also want to make a significant impact in the world around me and I can do it more effectively if I’m offering my talents and time to my community versus being too tired to exercise them because of a 9-5 drain. Time wealth is another reason why; control over my time gives me control over my life and the freedom to build the one my family and I dream of.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
In a field of a hundred techniques, my team & I believe we have struck the perfect balance in dog training. We are a family business in the business of saving dogs and our mission is to keep dogs out of shelters.

Professionally, I’m most proud of saving and training 1.5 million dollars worth of dogs in 9 years. That’s a serious labor of LOVE. Personally I’m most proud of my wife and her strength, her devotion to our marriage, our growth together and our future.

I made $8,000 my first year training dogs. I was in the midst of leaving an abusive relationship, fighting for custody of my daughter, my dad had just died, my electricity, phone and water would be shut off regularly because I couldn’t afford my bills or food. Went hungry some nights and started donating my plasma for some extra money to be able to get around to my clients. Stressful times and it was humor and a commitment to my personal growth through therapy and books to better myself and by doing so, better my life by learning how to get out of my own way. Now we are at six figures and growing every day., both as people and professionals. Very grateful, busy is a blessing!

I want people to know they no matter the odds stacked against you, even if you feel like nobody has gone through what you have, you’re never more than 3 feet from gold so keep digging down deep inside; know yourself and remember that who you are will always fight who you’re trying to become. Old habits die hard so start small and consistent., never losing sight of your VISION and the legacy you want to leave behind.

Steady Hand dog training was born out of a labor of love, of passion and years of sacrifice on my wife and mine’s part in order to build a lasting movement that will advocate for dogs and strengthen the bond between man and best friend. We know balance. We know the language of dogs, the subtleties and ins & outs from 9 years of training 720+ dogs. We are the Steady Hand Fam and once you’re in the family, you’re IN the family for life.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Outdoor activities in Arizona are a given. Pool parks, nice restaurants, shopping, paintball, horseback riding, Sedona tours, Flagstaff hikes.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My wife. She got on this wild ride when she met me and adapted as best she could. Patient, insightful and ever a reminder to prioritize family and not get lost grinding away at work.
