Meet Alexandra Gudmundsson | Founder Member of Little Taller

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexandra Gudmundsson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexandra, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
The reality is, for the most part, if you are somewhere, you’re wanted there and meant to be there. It’s not an accident. You took the steps that got you there. You landed the position because of what you know, what you’ve done, and what you’re capable of. So forget worrying about whether or not you belong. That’s my biggest lesson, especially as someone who found success relatively young.
Letting go of imposter syndrome is one of the best things I did for myself and it’s my biggest piece of advice. If there are things for you to learn, you’ll learn them. Trust your capabilities, know that no one knows everything, and bring what you can to the table. There’s always another thing to worry about, so if you can find things to let go of, let go of them. And to me, imposter syndrome is something I can let go of.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
At Little Taller, we’ve been lucky to grow rapidly, but that comes with its own challenges, the biggest of which was finding our North star so that, as we grew, we could ensure that we were growing toward the company we wanted to be. And that’s a company that doesn’t just build stuff to build stuff, we want to see the whole picture and help our clients pursue their macro goals through our work with them.
For context, Little Taller is a strategic design and development agency based out of Phoenix. I think what sets us apart is that North star – our focus is on delivering outcomes, not items on a list. We go beyond just building a client a website or an app (though, of course, we do that too!); we’re making sure what we build is done in a way that will help our clients reach their goals – achieving the things that made them want the app or the site or the new tool or integration, whatever it is, in the first place.
But really, I’m most excited not about where we are or how we got here, but about what comes next. I’m proud of the team we’ve built. It’s been really exciting to see everyone’s unique strengths start to come out as we’ve grown and everyone’s had more opportunity to spread their wings. I’m looking forward to seeing that continue to build and finding out just how far we can go.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m not really big on going out, I’m not a huge foodie. But if I had a good friend in town, I’d want to show them this community. That would be the most important thing. What I’ve loved about going from GCU to getting involved with StartupAZ and building Little Taller is growing this amazing network of people with great ideas – entrepreneurs, friends, teammates, mentors, and so on. The people I lean on for advice when things get tough and who really make what we do at LT a pleasure. So I’d take my friend to Churchhill, or Valley Bar, get a group together, and let the great ideas fly. Beyond that, well, you can never go wrong with ending the night with pizza from Ziggys.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
This could be the longest list. I’ll never catch everyone. Startup AZ connected me to so many great founders and leaders that have become my mentors. GCU was pivotal – I met Kyle Burnett, co-founder of Little Taller, and other professors who helped shape not just where I work and what I do but I how I do it – and especially how I approach challenges. Sheila Schumacher was always available with an open office door, happy to sit after class to talk through branding exercises. That was huge. And there are so many more people – I could list everyone at Little Taller and not have gotten halfway through the list.
That’s the thing, there are so many people and things that push you forward to find your place. Mentors, teams, friends. It sounds cliché but I truly, truly believe it’s who you surround yourself with that matters. Cultivate community, folks.
